“If we want what we’ve never had, we must do what we’ve never done.”
The staff and board of the Greater Baton Rouge
Food Bank invited BHS to participate in their
“Hunger Action Month Kick Off Media Event”
on September 7th. Mrs. Supriya Jindal, the first
lady of Louisiana, also participated in the kick
off event. Throughout the month, Feeding
America’s nationwide network of more than
200 food banks, including the Greater Baton
Rouge Food Bank, is working to engage citi-
zens to take action through the “30 Ways in 30
Days” campaign.

September 9, 2011, BHS
hosted our first pep rally to
commemorate our first game
of the season. The pep-rally
was AWESOME thanks to Dr.
Kador who “pumped up” the
student body. The entertain-
ment was showcased by the
cheerleaders, dance team and
band which were amazing.

Graduation Rate
One of several calculations states are required
to report as part of the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB),
the Cohort Graduation Rate, is a measure based on the percentage
of students who enter the ninth grade and graduate four years
later, meaning that the graduation rate released represents the
success of students who started high school during 2007-2008
school year.
Local and state education leaders have intensified their
focus on improving graduation rates, with the aim of raising the
annual cohort Rate to 80 percent by 2014, a goal enacted into law
by state lawmakers in 2009. Because the calculation is based on a
four-year time frame, the education community will not be able to
fully determine the effectiveness of these initiatives for several
years.
Below you will find a chart which details the Cohort
Graduation Rate (CGR) of Baker High School for the past three
years:
We are pleased with the significant increase our school
has in our Cohort Graduation Rate. As we continue to implement
research-based strategies that increase the number of students who
graduate while increasing student achievement, it is our hope that
more students will finish high school on time and become produc-
tive members of society.
