Electricity has become an integral part of life, without which the

modern era would transform into Stone Age. Electricity today fuels

everything the man kind has achieved and invented. The applications

of which has its span from a toaster to an airbus 380, from a computer

chip to huge spacecrafts. When one hears the word electricity, the first

thing that most people think of are they TV, the microwavecomputers, A/C, and the other supplied devices in the house. These

instances are only of the smallest methods of electric uses. Electricity

is used in homes, industry, communications, transportation, and in

    medicine/science.

And, the electricity which is produced is to be distributed effectively

across, to meet the domestic needs of the people and for harnessing

various technologies which would further facilitate well being ofmankind.

In the distribution process there is an exceptionally important role

played by transformers. A key application of transformers is to

increase voltage before transmitting electrical energy over long

distance through wires the transformers enable economic transmission

of power over long distances. Consequently, transformers have

shaped the electricity supply industry, permitting generation to belocated remotely from points of demand.

Since the need for high voltage electricity transformers is surging,

there has been a need for an insulating material that could withstand

the high electricity and physical stresses experienced around a core

and windings. Press board, a board made by compressing layers of

paper together and drying them, has been used for installation

purposes in many of the first electrical machines however as electricaltechnology increased, the need for a higher density material machines.

However as electrical technology increased, the need for a higher

density material that was capable of insulating larger and higher

    voltage transformers grew.

In the late 1920s, Hans Tschudi-Faude became the director of H.

Weidmann Limited began developing a type of pressboard and

insulating tapes that would meet higher standards needed for the

newer, more powerful transformers. Unlike older methods of

pressboard and insulating materials production, transformer board

was not based on used paper or cotton waste but was made with high-

grade sulfate cellulose the new product was made purely out ofcellulose without resin or binder , significantly improving electrical

insulation capabilities and could be completely dried, degassed, and

oil impregnated. The new product became famous under the name

    transformer board.

Today, the industry of pressboards has grown explosively over a

period of time. This industry continues to grow with a current global

market demand of 55000 metric tons, thanks to the ever growingdemand for power and distribution transformers industry, which

determines the demand for the pressboards.

The first electrical systems to make use of insulators were

telegraph lines; direct attachment of wires to wooden poles was found

to give very poor results, especially during damp weather.

The first glass insulators used in large quantities had an unthreaded

pinhole. These pieces of glass were positioned on a tapered woodenpin, vertically extending upwards from the pole's cross arm

(commonly only two insulators to a pole and maybe one on top of the

pole itself). Natural contraction and expansion of the wires tied to

these "thread less insulators" resulted in insulators unseating from

    their pins, requiring manual reseating.

Amongst the first to produce ceramic insulators were companies in

the United Kingdom, with Stiff and Doulton using stone ware from

the mid 1840s, Joseph Bourne (later renamed Denby) producing them

from around 1860 and Bullers from 1868. Utility

patent number48,906 was granted to Louis A. Cauvet on July 25,

1865 for a process to produce insulators with a threaded pinhole. To

this day, pin-type insulators still have threaded pinholes.

The invention of suspension-type insulators made high-voltage power

transmission possible. Pin-type insulators were unsatisfactory over

    about 60,000 volts.[citation needed]

A large variety of telephone, telegraph and power insulators have

been made; some people collect them, both for their historic interest

and for the aesthetic quality of many insulator designs and finishes.

Electrical insulation is the absence ofelectrical conduction.

Electronicband theory (a branch of physics) says that a charge will

flow if states are available into which electrons can be excited. This

allows electrons to gain energy and thereby move through a conductor

such as a metal. If no such states are available, the material is an

insulator. Most (though not all see Mott insulator) insulators have a largeband

gap. This occurs because the "valence" band containing the highest

energy electrons is full, and a large energy gap separates this band

from the next band above it. There is always some voltage (called

thebreakdown voltage) that will give the electrons enough energy to

be excited into this band. Once this voltage is inldafk the material

ceases being an insulator, and charge will begin to pass through it.

However, it is usually accompanied by physical or chemical changesthat permanently degrade the material's insulating properties.

Materials that lack electron conduction are insulators if they lack

other mobile charges as well. For example, if a liquid or gas contains

ions, then the ions can be made to flow as an electric current, and the

material is a conductor. Electrolytes andplasmas contain ions and will

act as conductors whether or not electron flow is involved.

Since the world economy is still on the rise and the scope for

infrastructure related industry is getting multiplied every while. And

hence it also signifies that the demand for electrical insulating

    materials will continue to grow.

The technology of the insulating materials has not gone under any

significant change, and is not expected to change in the near future

also; this proves the credibility and accountability of the technology,

which is handling challenges, posed y the modern electricity

standards very successfully. Though todays electrical industrys

    standards has met enormous change.

Post 1991s New Industrial Policy, the industry has witnessed much

number of proficient players who are competing to gain the market

leadership in India, but the market has engrossed the competition

because of endless demand posed across the industry. India has its

export market spread across the globe for its international; quality

standards and cater to the need of the customization where, the

insulators are tailor made to the customers requirement and

specifications at a very cheaper price when compared to its

    international contenders.

    INTRODUCTION TO HRM

Human resources may be defined as the total knowledge, skills, creative

abilities, talents and aptitudes of an organization's workforce, as well as the

values, attitudes, Approaches and beliefs of the individuals involved in the

affairs of the organization. It is the sum total or aggregate of inherent

abilities, acquired Knowledge and skills represented by the talents and

aptitudes of the persons employed in the organization.

The human resources are multidimensional in nature. From the national point of

View, human resources may be defined as the knowledge, skills, creative

    abilities,

Talents and aptitudes obtained in the population; whereas from the viewpoint of

the Individual enterprise, they represent the total of the inherent abilities,

acquired Knowledge and skills as exemplified in the talents and aptitudes

    of its employees.

DefinitionHuman Resource Management has come to be recognized as an inherent part of

management, which is concerned with the human resources of an organization.

    Its

objective is the maintenance of better human relations in the organization by the

development, application and evaluation of policies, procedures and

    programmes

Relating to human resources to optimize their contribution towards the

    realization

    Of organizational objectives.

    17/31

In other words, HRM is concerned with getting better results with the collaboration of people.

It is an integral but distinctive part of management, concerned with people at work and

their relationships within the enterprise. HRM helps in attaining maximum individual

development, desirable working relationship between employees and employers,

employees and employees, and effective modeling of human resources as

contrasted with physical resources. It is the recruitment, selection,

development, utilization, compensation and motivation of

    human resources by the organization.

EvolutionDevelopment management and worker's participation in management. These

three phases may the early part of the century saw a concern for improved

efficiency through careful design of work. During the middle part of the

century emphasis shifted to the employee's productivity. Recent decades

have focused on increased concern for the quality of working life, total

quality be termed as welfare, and empowerment.

    Nature

Human Resource Management is a process of bringing people and organizations

together so that the goals of each are met. The various features of HRM include:

It is pervasive in nature as it is present in all enterprises.
