Who are we?
The School of Languages is a government school established in 1986 to enhance access, choice and continuity in language learning for South Australian students, through the provision of quality programs in a broad range of languages R—12, that complement and supplement languages programs offered in mainstream schools and ethnic schools.
About Bosnian
The Bosnian language comes from the Slavic group of languages and is written with both the Cyrillic and Latin alphabets. It is the official language of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Bosnian language and culture have made significant contributions in literature, art and music. The very famous ballad Hasanaginica originating from the Bosnian region has been translated into more than 40 languages.
Significant numbers of Bosnia and Herzegovina-born migrants arrived in Australia in the early 1990s but migration has declined since then. There are approximately 25 000 Bosnia and Herzegovina-born people in Australia, meaning that there are career prospects in interpreting and community welfare or in the service Bosnian-speaking graduates in Australia.
Bosnian has been taught at The School of Languages since 2006.
