I thank you for the love you each have shown, But now it's time I traveled on alone. So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must. Then let your grief be comforted by trust. Obituary

Lucille devoted much of her time and energy providing care and advice to many family members and friends. She loved to cook and would spend numerous hours preparing favorite family meals in her kitchen, while caring for those she loved so much. She enjoyed studying the bible, reading medical journals, watching history programs, gardening, sewing, and wearing the latest fashions and hairstyles. Lucille loved listening to music, playing a game of Gin Rummy, laughing, being with her family, having fun with friends, and teaching her great-grandson, nephews, and nieces in all school subjects. Lucille will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Psalm 23: 1-6New King James Version (NKJV)

The LORD the Shepherd of His PeopleA Psalm of David

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He makes me to lie down in green pastures;He leads me beside the still waters.

He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness

For His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,I will fear no evil;

For You are with me;Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil;

My cup runs over.Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD

Forever.

Lucille Stevens, affectionately known as “Artie,” was born August 30, 1939, and was granted her angel wings on April 23, 2012. Her final days were spent surrounded by family, who she had touched in her special way, throughout her very memorable life. Lucille was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and sister.

Born in Holly Springs, Mississippi, Lucille was raised in Cleveland, Ohio where she lived throughout her life. Lucille was baptized and proclaimed Christ at an early age. She attended Brooklawn Elementary, Longmead Elementary, Carl F. Schuler Junior High, and John Marshall High School in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, where she excelled in academics. Lucille held a variety of job positions at Western Electric, in Solon, Ohio, but her family was always her first priority.

Lucille was one of thirteen children born to the late Lester Sr. and Ethel Sharp, and was the beloved wife of Hosper Stevens, Jr., for over 56 years. Her memory and living will forever be cherished and celebrated by her devoted husband, Hosper, daughter, Cynthia (Lenard), granddaughter, Laura Bonner (Isaac, Sr.) and great-grandson, Isaac, Jr. Lucille’s brothers, Timothy and Herbert preceded her in death. She will forever be remembered by her caring brothers: Bezellea (Louise), of Cincinnati, Ohio; Lester, Jr., Billy (Brenda), Jasper (Veronica), Bruce, of Austin, Texas, and Leonard (Gertrude), of Darmstadt, Germany; and her loving sisters: Mary (Lawrence-deceased,) of Rancho Dominguez, California; Lillie (Anthony), Loretta, Denise (Marquis); and Ruthie Rooks of Holly Springs, Mississippi; and a host of treasured nephews and nieces, along with countless other family and friends, who were blessed to know her.

Lucille was a devoted and proud member of the Prince Hall Order of the Eastern Star, Queen Elizabeth Chapter #9 and Daughter of Isis of El Hasa Court #47. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church, belonged to the Arboretum Foundation garden club, and donated to various charities.

She touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity, and maintained her trademark sense of humor throughout her journey. Lucille’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her, understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. She gave everyone she knew such courage and hope, and reminded them of the preciousness of life. Lucille’s wisdom, gentle smile and knack for witty conversations, brought so much joy to her family.
