Welcome to Wheels Manufacturing

Wheels Manufacturing was started in 1988 in Boulder, Colorado. What started in a small machine shop producing cog removal tools and chainring spacers quickly blossomed into a large scale manufacturing facility producing a full line of small parts totaling over 900 products. We are currently located in Louisville, Colorado.

At Wheels Manufacturing we strive to meet the demands of today’s cyclists and service centers. We have real cyclists working in our facility, willing and able to tackle any technical question that might arise during your repair or build. Have a question? Wheels Manufacturing has an extensive list of equipment in our machine shop. We have CNC mills, CNC lathes and a large array of manual machines and equipment. We have a separate parts de-burring and polishing room that makes all of our products look their best after final finishing.

Wheels Mfg. axles are manufactured from aircraft quality 4130 alloy steel. This steel is specifically made for Wheels Mfg. and is heat-treated to increase strength without making the axle brittle. Rolled threads are used, instead of cut threads, to increase thread strength and for easy assembly of cones and locknuts.

Axles are available in 3 thread patterns: Italian (9.0 x 26 front and 10 x 26 rear), Japanese (9.0 x 1 front and 10 x 1 Rear), Taiwanese (9.0 x 1 front and 9.5 (3/8”) x 26 Rear)

Wheels Mfg. produces all three thread patterns in the most popular lengths.

Dropout savers are made from aircraft-quality steel. In most cases, the thread strength of the saver is greater than the thread strength of the original dropout. Dropout savers are precision-machined to exacting tolerances and plated for corrosion resistance.

How to use the Dropout SystemThe dropout saver system is an alternative to replacing badly bent or damaged derailleur dropouts. Rather than replacing the bent dropout at considerable cost and effort, simply follow a few easy steps to repair the existing dropouts:1. Use the dropout saver drill to drill out the damaged threads.2. Measure the dropout width to determine whether to use Saver DS-1 or DS-2 • For narrow dropouts (less than 7mm), use DS-2 • For wide dropouts (wider that 7mm), use DS-13. Install saver in the back of the dropout and realign dropout using a gear hanger alignment tool.4. Install derailleur and tighten while holding saver with 16mm cone wrench.
