Question 1 “Did you understand the narrative of the film” Over 57% of the persons who received my questionnaire understood

the narrative of my film, while the remainder failed to understand the production as a whole.

This revelation has proven to me that statistically my production met the standards of how to effectively construct a narrative using Todorovs theory Narratology.

Question 2 “What genre do you think the film fits” Although my production was aiming to have more thriller elements involved,

surprisingly just under 43% though that my film was of the thriller genre, while an equal percentage though that it belonged to the action genre.

The people questioned mainly supported the idea that that my film resembled many of the tropes and conventions that constructed an ‘action’ production. A notion for this could be the broad brush labelling audiences use to categorize films, so they could have linked both the thriller genre with the action genre as identical. Despite the fact that both thriller and action share connections in the end I aimed to ‘paint’ my production as more thriller

However, around 14% of individuals questioned identified my film as both thriller and action.

Question 3 “How did the film make you feel” When emotions were involved, the percentage of the opinions were

divided even more, a small portion of the people questioned though the film confusing, around 29% so this concurs with the answers regarding question 1 as only a small portion failed to understand the film in its entirety.

Over 42% concluded that the film was understandable but it made them uneasy, which was one of the main aims of my production to not only entertain my audience but to build up tension through the slow burning scenes.

The rest (29%) only thought the film as intense and ‘exciting’, which could probably be thanks to my inclusion of several ‘intense’ soundtracks and the progressive dark atmosphere. 42%

Question 4 “What did you think of the atmosphere of the film”

When making my production the decision was made to openly challenge the traditional convention that the hero or protagonist will discover some form of moral ‘clarity’ or sense of justice. An example of this could be at the end of This Is England in which Shaun throws away the English flag which was given to him by the lead skinhead, severing his ties with the racist ideologies that came along with that flag.

Around 57% of people questioned identified the main protagonist as villainous while the remaining 43% viewed him as a hero still despite his dark turn in the conclusion.

Question 5 “Did you think that the music fitted the atmosphere of the film” One of the most important aspects of any film while simultaneously

being one of the most underrated ones, is the implementation and choice of soundtrack/music/score.

Over a myriad of reasons, my film progressively turned to more thriller elements than action so my Non-diegetic aspects had to be altered along with the film.

To my surprise, 100% of the applicants enjoyed my chosen soundtracks and some even stated that it was “fitting in all areas” and “sometimes uneasy, sometimes entertaining”

Question 6 “What did you think was the weakest aspect of the promotional package”

When it came down to the weaknesses attributed to my entire A2 media portfolio, 57% chose my Poster, 14% chose my film and 28% chose my review.

The criticism surrounding my film was mainly summed up by poor editing and shoddy framework in some areas while being occasionally confusing.

The 28% that chose my review as the weakest aspect claimed it was due to the fact that it was too “bland”.

However, the reason why most chose my Poster was not due to visual issues or creative missteps, it was due to the fact that when they analysed the poster closer they realised that it missed some certain features such as additional companies. Which caught me off guard.

Question 7 “Were you satisfied with the conclusion”

For the majority, the conclusion of the film was well received. In fact the film gathered a 58% approval rate from the persons questioned. They seemed to enjoy the ‘twist’ at the end and its dark undertone in regards to the main characters personality.

This approval could be due to the fact that most audiences today revel in darker, more ‘gritty’ narratives. A great example could be the Dark knight Trilogy, which grossed $2.464 billion in the box office which clearly indicates the transition from the campy 1960’s batman portrayed by Adam West to Christian Bales more realistic take on the character.

The main reason why the remaining 43% did not enjoy the conclusion of the film is mainly down to a lack of equilibrium which fits Todorovs model, some even flat out disliking it due to the fact they “didn’t know what was in the USB”
