Why picking the right company is important

• Distribution is very important in the magazine industry almost as the making of the magazine itself as you can make a top class magazine but not many will be able to read it if your distribution lets you down. The company that you select is important because they will handle all of distribution and publishing. The firm needs to be able to cope with the needs of your magazine and be able to effectively distribute your magazine to reach your customers or potential customers. If your distribution is bad then all the effort that has been put in to the magazine is wasted.

Blaze Publishing LTD• My magazine closely mirrors

another magazine that is already an official media product and is distributed nationally. It is called Acoustic and it is distributed by a company called Blaze Publishing LTD. This is the only magazine that the company publishes. Acoustic magazine started in 2004 and has been mildly successful among acoustic fans and others that are curious/interested in that genre. It currently only distributes in the UK

Reasons to pick Blaze Publishing LTD

• They publish the same genre of magazine as mine.• They will know where my genre of magazine sells well to.• Is a UK based business so costs and business ethics will be

intact which could draw in more customers• Is a long established firm so they are experienced in this

market and know what to do.• Is a good small company so my magazine will get lots of effort

from the employees at Blaze Publishing and attention.

Reasons not to pick Blaze Publishing LTD

• They are a small firm therefore they many not be able to compete with larger rivals.

• Only distributes in the UK • Only distributes one other magazine• May lack experience in distributing two magazines at the

same time• May lack experiences in different fields of distribution e.g. the

European or North American market

Bauer Media Group• Another option is to use

Bauer Media Group to distribute my product. This company is responsible for over 600 magazines and 50 radio stations around the world so these are a big company, this company distributes magazines such as Q. Q magazine started in 1986 in the UK and has now grown to be one of the most popular magazines in the world distributing to countries like UK and the USA.

Reasons to pick Bauer Media Group

• Is a large and well established company meaning that they have a lot of experience in this market.

• Has many other magazines that it distributes with many genres so they will know how and where to distribute.

• Is well financed meaning that my product will get signigificantly more resources then if I was at Blaze Publishing LTD

• Can use the conglomerates of Bauer Media Group to market my magazine

• Distributes to more countries

Reasons not to pick Bauer Media Group

• Is large so my magazine may not get as much attention and effort as that from Blaze Publishing LTD

• Is corporate so they may want to alter and change my magazine before they accept to distribute.

• May be less likely to accept a niche genre of magazine • May not have any acoustic genre magazines so may not know

where it is best to distribute

My choice• I would personally go with Blaze Publishing LTD although they are a small

business with not as much experience as Bauer Music Group or as much finance, they do have over 10 years experience distributing an acoustic genre product which already makes them very suited to distribute my magazine as they have 10 years of experience already, plus a lot of effort and time will be put into my product and hopefully with my addition of my product I will help Blaze Publishing LTD grow and expand.
