What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

When choosing the correct institution to create and distribute a film, you must ensure that the film will be appropriate enough for the institutions in which you were targeting to distribute that type of film. The reputation in which the institution has could get ruined if they distribute a film that isn’t approaching for there target audience, e.g. having nudes scene in a PG film.

Choosing the right institution to distribute a film can also have an effect on the film itself and decide whether the film is successful or not. And also, choosing the right institution can have an influence on the target audience if the certain institution is known for its particular time of genre, e.g. Pixar creating animations for kids like Toy Story.

Why is it important to identify and choose the correct institution to create and distribute a film?

When choosing the distribution who would represent my film, I would go for one who has had success distributing films within my genre and target audience. Saying that I feel that Lions Gate Films would be the right distribution to use. Lions Gate distributed the film ‘American Psycho’ and due to the main antagonist within our thriller being similar to Patrick Bateman, this would be a great choice.
