Based on the image shown in the box above (a), children write down what the symbol/image refers to. The images used are fairly well known images in New Zealand although I have kept away from the very well known images such as the fast food restaurants etc to get the children to think a bit more than the obvious (although a few less well known ones have also been used for extension). These sheets can either be used as a written (either on the sheet or in their books which is why I have included numbers/letters for each image), oral, individual, group, homework, quick-fire, or class exercise (or a combination of all). Whatever best suits your situation and the needs and abilities of the children. There are 48 images, with the final page being blank so the children could also do their own known images. Key Words/Terms Children could write so many number of words which either describe the image/what it means and/or descriptive words that come to mind when they see each image. For a more artistic stance, you could also get them to do static images related to the original image which are different to the original image.
