of a school! Well done to our Sacred Heart Community.
Now that the term is coming to a
close and holidays are finally here,
it’s time to calm, relax and rejuve-
nate. Below are some tips from
Maggie Dent:
Tips to calm your home 1. Be comfortable with quiet
yourself and model it. 2. Slow children's lives down –
hurried children struggle. 3. Remove clutter and mess because it can add to a child's perception of being in chaos
and out of control. 4. Play music that soothes the brain & burn aromatherapy oils that calm. 5. Ensure your boundaries and the kids' boundaries are clear and healthy around meals,
sleep, siblings, mobiles, computer use and safety. 6. Make time for play and creativity. 7. Take children out into the fresh air as often as possible. 8. Use quiet voices, ask politely rather than demanding and really listen to your children,
without interrupting. 9. Give each other foot, head or back massages, even while watching TV. 10. When needed use calming, creative visualisations for everyone. Buy a CD to guide you.
JAPANESE NEWS - MORE HOST FAMIILIES REQUIRED FOR MALE STUDENTS
Our school is hosting a group of students from Japan from 16 Oct—2 Nov and we are desperately seek-ing more male students from Years 4 – 6 to host a Japanese boy. GKA is an English immersion school so the students are very good at English and eager to experience life in Australia! The visiting students will stay with a family from the school and participate in regular classes alongside their host stu-dent. Hosting is easy and rewarding, students fit in with your routine and they can share a room. You receive $400. If you can help or would like more information please contact the program coordina-tor Jason Hutchinson on 0417773846 or email [email protected]

AMAZING RACE
Our Kindy children have been superstars at our Amazing Race Days. They ran, jumped, balanced and smiled their way through the day which focused on inclusiveness and fairness. We have such a wonderful sense of community in our Kindy and it was good to see the parents getting back to PLAY-ING by participating in the running races. The teachers and Year Six helpers showed they were super-fast on their feet as they dashed towards the finish line being cheered on by the Kindy children. A special thank you to our Year Six helpers who demonstrated great leadership skills on the day.

House Carnival 2016
Over the past 3 days students have been competing in events for our 2016 House Athletics Carnival.
On Monday 12 September the Year 4-6 students participated in their field events and the 400m. I was re-ally impressed with all the students results especially in the turbo javelin given the wind the students had to throw into. I was also proud of the students endeavour during the 400m event.
On Tuesday the Year 4-6 students went across to the high school to run the 200m. It was great to see all the cheering that occurred with all students supporting their peers.
On Wednesday 14 September the students in PP-6 competed in the 100m and team games. Congratula-tions goes out to all the students who competed to the best of their ability.
Thank you very much to all the parents who volunteered their time over the past three days. It was great to have so many volunteers and some new parents put their name down to help—it is greatly appreciated.

Year 6 Debating
On Thursday, the Year Six classes met with Aquinas College for interschool debating. Both classes had been working hard all term learning the correct way to research, write and present a debate and it was great to see the enthusiasm with which the students took up this challenge.
Students debated five topics:
That the Olympic Games are a waste of money
That plastic bags should be banned
That zoos are a form of animal cruelty
That winning is the most important thing
That all Olympic Games should be held in Athens
Debates were adjudicated by the Year 10 Debate team from Aquinas and both schools managed to win an equal number of debates.
