EDUCATIONAL NEED The 25th Annual Meeting of the Western Society of 

Pediatric Cardiologists is designed for care providers of patients with pediatric, adolescent, or adult congenital heart disease. 

Controversy exists with respect to the choice and timing of certain cardiac surgeries. Providers need to understand the advantages and disadvantages of a certain approach in these cases in order to recommend the best treatment for their patients.  

Providers require up to date information about the following areas in order to ensure best outcomes for their patients: the latest advances in diagnostic techniques, new treatments for heart failure, cardiac screening of athletes, the risks of pregnancy in a patient with congenital heart disease and the appropriate management of the asymptomatic patient with a positive genetic test for heart disease   TARGET AUDIENCE This live activity is intended for physicians, physician’s assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners and other allied health professionals who specialize in Pediatric Cardiology.  CONFERENCE FORMAT The format of this 2 ½ day conference will contain several distinct session types:  Round Table Discussion, Debates, Case‐Based Tutorials and Abstract Presentations.  This format will engage the physician learner and enable them to interact on multiple levels.  

ACCREDITATION AND DESIGNATION OF CREDITS This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Institute for Medical Quality/California Medical Association (IMQ/CMA) through the joint sponsorship of CHOC Children’s and the Western Society of Pediatric Cardiology. CHOC Children’s is accredited by the Institute for Medical Quality/California Medical Association (IMQ/CMA) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.  

Children's Hospital of Orange County designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 12.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.   

This credit may also be applied to the CMA Certification in Continuing Medical Education.  

NURSES The California Board of Registered Nursing recognizes that Continuing Medical Education (CME) is acceptable for meeting RN continuing education requirements; as long as the course is certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ (rn.ca.gov).  Nurses will receive a Certificate of Attendance following this activity that may be used for license renewal.

Medical breakthroughs have allowed young people with complex medical issues to survive to adulthood, with the expectations of leading long and productive lives. The challenge is to facilitate the transition of these adolescents from the pediatric health care system where they have flourished, to adult‐centered care. Although the transition is essential, it does put increased responsibility on the young person at a time when they are dealing with other transitions involved with growing up. During this time, medical care is often delayed and health can deteriorate. Physicians can provide patients with skills and tools to facilitate their receiving uninterrupted, timely and appropriate care.
