The look often comes at a cost but lighting company Brilliant Lighting has just released an aff ordable range of on-trend decorative pendants, available at Bunnings, inspired by Scandina-vian design to help get beginner interior decorators and enthusi-asts started.

According to Interior designer, Bree Leech, it doesn’t take much to recreate the look at home.

“Simple Scandi is where graphic geometry and clean lines meet organic and relaxed fi nishes. Sometimes it takes on an indus-trial edge but the look is always clean and modern,” she said.

Neutral colours, blacks, char-coals and whites are used most commonly, with pops of colour – pastels are tipped to give a modern twist to the trend, espe-cially pinks – added for detail on features like the lamp cord.

“Choose simple large industrial pendants or timber balanced-arm lamp bases with black or white shades. Other options might include single colour or timber fi nish graphic geometric designs that feature shards, facets, cubes or polygons.”

Ms Leech said that simple black and white graphic patterns in throws, cushions and artwork

complement Scandi-look lighting and help to enhance the look, as well as light timber furniture, pale timber or white washed fl oors, sheepskin or fur rugs and acces-sories and white accessories in simple shapes.

U nder the harsh summer sun one of the fi rst things to feel the damaging aff ects of

the heat is the lawn. But with a little TLC you can keep your yard looking beautiful all year round. Australian turf grower and Presi-dent of Turf Australia Anthony Muscat has some advice on how to keep your lawn looking luscious through the warmer months.

When watering the lawn be sure to do it fi rst thing of a morning.

This helps to give the water time to soak in before the temperature rises.

If morning isn’t an option then late afternoon is also a good time. When you do water it’s best to spend a little more time and water deeply.

This leads to a deeper root system which ensures the lawn won’t dry out as quickly on hot days and means you won’t have to water as often.

It’s also a good idea to avoid mowing on really hot days and save the weed spraying and fertilising until the cooler weather comes.

Shop around: While banks and lenders use the same general rules when it comes to your loan, some are easier than others to deal with. Some have better rates, some have better conditions. Make sure you shop around. Get your home loan at the place that suits you and your circumstances.

Stay informed: Ask your bank about the process and timeframes for getting your loan approved. Chase up, check on the progress and remain informed about what’s going on. Sometimes your bank just needs a little push to ensure everything goes smoothly.
