Thank you West LA Chamber of Commerce:

About a year ago I embarked in the biggest, most harrowing journey of my life: Open-

ing my own business. At the end of my street, in my own Brentwood neighborhood, I found the

perfect space in the perfect location for my new business called Kinetic Cycling. The only questionlooming in my thoughts and through the voices of friends was How can you open a business nowin this economy? It was not an easy question to answer. I had only to rely on what my fathertaught me, Work hard, keep trying, and never give up, then good things will happen. So I

pushed through, kept going. Right before Kinetic Cycling opened, I ran into Dave Schuk at PeetsCoffee, who recommended that I join the Chamber of Commerce. Within one month, I received a

phone call from Paul Reznik asking if I would be willing to participate in a interview on KNBC, whowas doing a story on how difficult it is to open a business during a recession. I gladly said yes,

the story aired, and had what I believe to be a huge impact on the successful opening of my newfitness studio, Kinetic Cycling Brentwood. Six months have gone by since I joined the Chamberand not one moment of regret has transpired. Thank you, Paul Reznik and the West LA Chamberof Commerce.

Serving You, Your Business and the Westside Since 1945

    Things have changed a lot

since then . . . or have they? I have

read that people dont buy a

product or service unless they are

exposed to it four to seven times.

Is this a coincidence? Perhaps we

can assert that our wealth is a

function of the people we know and

our participation in the community.Do you think there is a

    direct correlation between your

    visibility and credibility and your

profitability? Test this in your own

business and see if there is a real

    link . . . and perhaps consider

    joining a Chamber committee

    today!

    By Robert S. Chun

    The other day I overheard

    someone saying business is more

challenging now than in the past and

there is more violence in society today

than 30 years ago. A few hours later, a

friend told me that he closed a big

business deal and then I heard

on the news that the world is safer

today. Which is true?During the days of hunters and

gatherers, if you didnt come around,

    chances were something really bad

had happened to you. However, if you

came around regularly and said hello,

    people considered you strong and

dependable. If you took the initiative

    and joined hunting parties and

gathered fruits here and there, you

were invited to the tribal parties. You

benefited as the tribe grew and

    prospered, and became resistant to

    the seasonal changes through

    planning and cooperation.
