WELFARE
• 47% of Americans receive at least one form of Federal aid.
• TANF=Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (Welfare)
• 3.4% of Americans receive welfare (6% of Pennsylvanians do and 2.2% of Snyder Countians)
• Average monthly welfare check in US is $366.00.
• Each child adds $80.00 to a cash assistance grant.
• Average fertility rate is 1.8
Average fertility rate of those on “welfare” is 2.9.
• Out-of-Wedlock birth rates are no higher in high-benefit states than in low ones (Mississippi has the highest out-of-wedlock birth rates, but the lowest benefits)
• 2/3 of all out-of-wedlock births are to women who are not poor
• 3/4 of welfare families have no more than 2 children. Only 1 in 10 has four or more
• Adults may receive aid for no more than 2 years. After that they must work at least 20 hours per week to continue receiving benefits.
• Only disabled Americans may receive welfare longer than 5 years during their lifetime.
• 95% of families that receive TANF are headed by women.
• 4% of families that receive TANF are headed by a single female under age 18.
• Women who were raised in welfare households are more than twice as likely to be on welfare themselves than those who were not

• 51.4% of those who receive food stamps are children.
• 7% of those who receive food stamps are senior citizens.
• Average length of time someone receives food stamps is 7 months. (2/3 do so less than 1 year)
