Welded Joint:- Welding is process of joining two similar metal by heating with or without application of

pressure and filler material.

Advantages:-1) Weld joint provide maximum efficiency which is not possible by riveted

joint.2) Circular shape member are difficult to rivet but they can easily welded.3) Welding required less time than the riveting.

Disadvantages:-1) Highly skilled labour and Supervision is required.2) The inspection of weld is difficult than riveting joint.

Types of Welded Joints:a. Lap joint or fillet joints b. Butt joint(a) Types of fillet joint:

1)Single transverse 2) Double transverse

Page 4: Welding

3) Parallel fillet: The lap joint or fillet joint is obtaineb by overlapping the

weld. The cross section of the fillet is approximately triangular.

(b) Butt Joint:- The butt joint is obtained by placing the plate edge to edge.Type of butt joint :Symbol:

The other type of welded joints are corner joints, edge joint and T-joint.

Strength of Transverse Fillet Welded Joint:-• Consider a single transverse fillet weld.
