Configuring your Apple TVHaveyournetworknameandpassword(ifyouuseone)andyourAppleRemotehandywhenyouconfigureAppleTV.MakesuretherearenoobstructionsbetweentheremoteandAppleTV.Forinformationaboutusingyourremote,seeChapter3,“Watch.”onpage19.

Updating your iTunes softwareYoushouldupdatetothelatestversionofiTunes:
 On a Mac,useSoftwareUpdatetoupdatetothelatestversionofiTunes.TouseSoftwareUpdate,chooseApple()>SoftwareUpdate.
 On a Windows-based computer,gotoiTunesHelptoupdatetothelatestversionofiTunes.OpeniTunes,andthenchooseHelp>CheckforUpdates.
Setting up Home SharingAfteryousetupyournetworkconnection,youneedtosetupiTunesandAppleTVtosharethecontentsofyouriTuneslibrary.UseHomeSharinginiTunesandonAppleTVtosharetheiTuneslibraryofanycomputeronyourlocalnetworkthathasHomeSharingsetup.

Whenarentedmovieexpires,it’snolongeravailableforplayback.Towatchitagain,youcanrentitagainfromiTunes.

 AppleTVisconnectedtoyournetwork.ChooseSettings>General>Network,andseeifAppleTVhasanIPaddress.
 YournetworkandInternetconnectionsareonandworkingproperly.
Ifyoustillhavetrouble,tryresettingyourequipmentbydisconnectingAppleTV,yourTV,yourwirelessnetworkingequipmentorbasestation,andyourrouterfromthepoweroutlet.Wait30seconds,andthenreconnecteverything.

If there’s noise coming from your TV speakers IfyourTVorspeakerssupportDolbyDigitalaudio,makesuretheDolbyDigitalOutsettingiscorrectfortheTVandspeakers.OnAppleTV,chooseSettings>Audio&Video>DolbyDigital,andselectOnorOff.
If you’re having trouble viewing content from your iOS device using AirPlay OnAppleTV,gotoSettings>AirPlayandmakesureAirPlayisenabled.
 MakesureyouriOSdeviceandAppleTVareonthesameWi-Finetwork.
 MakesureyouriOSdeviceisrunningiOS4.3orlater.
 Ifyou’retryingtouseAirPlayMirroringtoshowthescreenofyouriOSdeviceonAppleTV,checkthatyourdevicesupportsthatfeature.
If Apple TV isn’t playing your photo albums or slideshows Makesureyouhavephotosinyourphotolibraryorinafolderonyourcomputer.
 MakesureAppleTVandthecomputeryou’reusingaresetupforHomeSharing.See“ConnectingtoiTunes”onpage17.
 Makesurethephotosyouwanttoshareareselected.IniTunes,chooseAdvanced>“ChoosePhotostoShare,”andthenselectthephotosyouwanttoshare.

 MakesurethefrontofAppleTVisn’tblocked.

If Apple TV can’t access the network Checkforanyobstructions,andadjustthelocationofthebasestationorAppleTV.
 Ifyournetworkhassecurityenabled,makesureyouenterthecorrectpassword.
 Ifsecurityisenabledonthenetwork,temporarilydisableitonthebasestationandtryconnectingagain.
 ChecktheIPaddressAppleTVisusing.Ifitstartswith169.x.x.x,therouterorbasestationmaynotbeconfiguredproperly.ChecktoseeifDHCPaccessisavailable,orconfigureAppleTVwithamanualIPaddress.
 AppleTVcannotconnecttoawirelessnetworkthatcontainshigh(extended)ASCIIordouble-byte(Unicode)characters(suchasJapanese,Korean,orChinese)inthenameorpassword.
If your TV screen appears fuzzy or black MakesureyourHDTVsupports720por1080pvideo.
 Makesureyou’reusingthecorrectHDMIcableandthatit’sfirmlyconnectedtoAppleTVandtoyourTV.
 MakesuretheinputsettingonyourTVmatchestheinputporttheHDMIcableisconnectedto.Forinformation,seethedocumentationthatcamewithyourTV.

If you can see a picture but Apple TV isn’t responding HolddownMenuontheAppleRemotetoreturntotheAppleTVmainmenu.

 IfyoupairedanAppleRemotewithAppleTV,makesureyou’reusingthepairedremote.See“PairingAppleTVwitharemote”onpage21.
 ResetAppleTVbydoingoneofthefollowing:
 HolddownbothMenuandDownontheAppleRemoteuntiltheAppleTVstatuslightblinksrapidly.
 DisconnectAppleTVfromthepoweroutlet,waitaboutfiveseconds,andthenreconnectit.
Resetting all the settings on your Apple TVYoucanresetallofthesettingsonyourAppleTVtofactoryvalues.
Important: Thisrequiresyoutoreenterallofyournetworkandaccountinformation.
To reset all settings:ChooseSettings>General>Reset>ResetAllSettings.
