Report: Much to the relief of all the players we finally got a dry Sunday after a pretty wet week which saw all the games get called off on Saturday without a ball being bowled. The Sunday XI travelled to the make shift home ground of Middlesex Tamils at Bushy, Watford with high hopes of securing their first league win. The non availability of the sunday regular Aamir Ahmed (aka Maq-boom) meant the sunday side was a bit light on the batting however the last minute availability of the little master Savin Perera bolstered the sunday XI batting order and now it looked better than ever with both the Perera brothers, Vasi Sheikh, Alex thamby and Hassan Hanif (playing his first sunday league game of the season). WHCC won the toss and elected to bat first. Dilesh and AB were sent in to open the innings. Opener A Bhardwaj (AB) was out bowled of an inside edge 3rd ball of the innings, and in walked Savin Perera at No 3. Both the Perera Brothers steadied the innings with controlled agression and added 59 Runs for the 2nd wicket before Savin got bolwed off a quicker ball from the MTSCC off spinner. At No 4 went Vasi Sheikh who batted with control and continued the good work. Him and Dilesh continued to accelerate at almost a run a ball. The partnership added 63 more runs before Vasi played across the line and was adjudged LBW. The Score now stood at 122-3. Alex Thamby went in at No 5 and took a few balls to get his eye in before him and Dilesh started to push the accelerator and decided to up the rate. Dilesh continued with sheer aggression and reached his first 100 of the season. A truly fantastic knock and a very well deserved 100. Dilesh has been in supreme form throughout the season for the Sunday XI and his 3 innings now tally at 50, 78 and 100. A total of 238 at an amazing average of 76. Dilesh got out straight after scoring his ton, and Hassan Hanif went in at 6 and scored at a very brisk rate from ball one. Played a good cameo of 19 at better than a run a ball. He got out and Mazhar soon followed, meanwhile Alex on the other end continued to score freely. Alex and Lotia finished the innings with some quick running between the wickets and the total looked an impressive 230-6 off 40 overs. Alex finished at 43 Not out. After some heavy teas consisting of hot french fries, cheese puffs and selection of good sandwiches, the WHCC looked all set to defend their total. Ash and Muneef took the new ball and bowled with superb control and aggression. Their immaculate line and length with pace troubled the MTSCC openers and never allowed them to score. Ash struck in his 2nd over with a good catch at slip from Alex Thamby which resulted in wild Gangnam Style celebrations from Alex and Ash much to the amusement of the capacity crowd at the Met Police ground and skipper Lotia. Muneef meanwhile, recovering from an ankle injury asked to be taken off as he clearly was struggling with his runup due to the injury. However he did a fine job with his 3 tight overs. Vasi came in first change and continued the good work and got the swing and miss MTSCC skipper off a top edge to cover, which was nicely held by Mazhar. Ash continued by cleaning up the MTSCC best batsmen with a fine yorker and the stage was set for a famous WHCC win. Ash bowled out his tally of 8 overs and Hanif came in to replace him for 2 overs of fine spin bowling, which he delivered by regularly stepping over the line for front foot No-Balls. Lotia and Alex were stunned to see a spinner with a long run up over stepping but Hanif returned back in his 2nd over to
prove he can actually bowl spin by getting a double wicket maiden courtesy of great work behind the stumps by keeper Dilesh. Hanif was rewarded for that great 2 wicket maiden over by being immediately taken off the attack and the whole team clapping him off for a fantastic 2 over spell. Lotia and Abdullah continued the bowling to wrap up the tail with Abdullah taking 3 wickets and Lotia a single wicket courtesy off a fantastic one handing diving catch at slip by Abdullah. MTSCC 117 all out. Clinical performance by WHCC. Well done to all, a great team spirit and a great team win. Highlight of the day: Abdullah taking a stunner at first slip with one hand diving to his right. Slip catches don't come better than that.
Dilesh first player to score a ton this season Adnan after getting his first win this season
