What does the sixth form curriculum look like?

Whole Education• At Wilmslow High School, we believe that our Sixth Form students are entitled to a

powerful curriculum that enables them to develop the knowledge, skills and qualities needed to flourish in life, learning and work.

• We encourage all our students to participate in a wide range of scholastic, creative, practical, sporting and character-building experiences that develop their full potential as rounded individuals.

• We want them to embark upon their chosen careers as:

What does this look like in the Sixth Form?

• In order to ensure that students make the most of your rich and broad opportunities, they do not have ‘free’ periods

• They are able to plan their study time across the school day, including the use of periods 0 and 7 (pre-School and post-School)

• They have the opportunity to gain a deep, broad and balanced whole curriculum which provides excellent preparation for University, Apprenticeships and Employment

Students need to have some of each colour on their weekly timetable - how these are allocated and managed is up to them.Take ownership of their timetable.

A-Level:• All subjects are now reformed at A Level

meaning that AS examinations are no longer taken

• Courses are 2 years in duration• External examinations are taken at the end of

Sport, the programme is organised over a series of units covered during the 2 years

• Students must pass all of their Year 12 units to progress into Year 13

16-19 BursaryWhat is the 16-19 Bursary Fund?

• The Bursary Fund is money that has been given directly to the Wilmslow High School by the Government to assist 16-19 year old students who face financial barriers in continuing in full time education.

Who will be eligible to apply for the Wilmslow High School 16-19 Bursary?• To qualify for the 16-19 Bursary Fund your household income must be

below £25,000, documentary evidence will need to be supplied with your application.

How do I apply for the Bursary?• Application packs are available from Mrs Flannery, Sixth Form Senior

Secretary, they need to be completed and returned by Friday 5th

October for authorisation.

Unacceptable Uses

• Between lessons students should not use mobile phones to check Firefly or ‘the time’; this should be done with planner usage or on a watch.

• Using mobiles to bully and threaten is unacceptable. Cyber bullying will not be tolerated. In some cases it can constitute criminal behaviour.

• Unless express permission is granted, mobile phones should not be used to make calls, send messages, internet usage, take photos or any other associated application.

• Listening to music through headphones will not be allowed in any lesson. Music may be played by the class teacher to improve ambience for learning but will be done through the main speakers.

• Mobile phones are banned from all examinations.

Sanctions

• Students who infringe the rules will have their phone confiscated and sent to sixth form student managers’ office immediately. Phones will be kept in named envelopes in the safe.

• On the first infringement, the mobile phone will be confiscated. The student will be able to collect their mobile phone at the end of the school day. Behaviour points will be issued.

• Persistent Offenders: parents will be contacted and asked to collect the phone at their earliest convenience.

• Students arguing with any member of staff over a mobile phone infringement will be dealt with very seriously. Members of staff have been asked to implement the policy consistently and therefore there should be no cause for argument.

HolidaysHolidayscannotbetakenduringtermtime.Therearefourteenweeksofschoolholidays,includingsixweeksinthesummer,duringwhichyoucantakeholidays.
