You’re invited! Join Archbishop Gomez

and tens of thousands in downtown Los

Angeles for the third annual OneLife LA, an

event celebrating the beauty and dignity

of every human life from conception to

natural death. On Saturday, January 21,

2017, beginning at 12:00 noon at La Placita/Olvera St.,

we will walk to Grand Park for a family-friendly day of

inspiring speakers, live music, entertainment, food

trucks, and exhibits from community organizations serv-

ing those in need. The Requiem Mass for the Unborn at

the Cathedral will follow at 5:00 p.m.

THE EPIPHANY

On Epiphany, as we recall and

celebrate our many gifts, we might

include such gifts as the gift of good

advice; the gift of being optimistic;

the gift of being patient with the

problems of life; the gift of hanging in

there and holding on; the gift of spreading smiles

around; the gift of knowing what’s wrong and do-

ing what’s right; the gift of believing in your abili-

ties; the gift of picking up the pieces, etc., etc.

We could also expand this list to include others

such as a kind word; a helping hand; the assur-

ance of our companionship; the gift of our time;

the gift of our silence or support when gossip flies;

the gift of forgiveness, freely given; the gift of for-

getfulness of others’ past faults; the gift of not al-

lowing the words, “I told you so” or “will you ever

learn?” or any other sarcastic, contentious, or self-

serving remark to cross our lips. These gifts, along

with the gifts of our shared faith, hope, love and

mutual support and service become practical

and attainable possibilities in our lives because

each is found in and flows from the ultimate gift of

God’s saving grace. Today, we celebrate that

gift and that grace made manifest among us and

within us in Jesus. Gifts received; gifts given!

It is a pleasure to inform you that the 2016 To-

gether In Mission Campaign is now officially

closed and that it was a howling success. We

reached our assigned quota ($51,400.00) thanks to

your well-known generosity and concern. In fact

we managed to overreach our goal, and St. Bene-

dict benefited by a few thousand dollars. Due to

various causes about $9,000.00 pledged could not

be paid, but despite that, you did a magnificent

job in providing for our less-fortunate brothers and

sisters in needy parishes. May God reward your

open-handed generosity many times over. Our

parish is most grateful to you for making it easy

and possible to attain our assigned goal. We face

our 2017 TIM Campaign with the complete assur-

ance that we will be equally successful in meeting

evento anual que celebra la belleza y la

dignidad de toda vida humana desde la

concepción hasta la muerte natural.

Empieza a las 12 del día en La Placita/

Olvera St., caminaremos hacia Grand Park para una día

familiar donde habrán conferencistas, música en vivio,

entretenimiento, camiones de comida, y puestos de

organizaciones comunitarias que sirven a personas ne-

cesitadas. Concluiremos con una misa para los no

nacidos en la catedral a las 5:00 p.m.

EPIFANÍA

En la Epifanía, al recordar y cele-

brar nuestros muchos dones, po-

dríamos incluir dones como el don

del buen consejo; el don de ser opti-

mista; el don de ser paciente con los

problemas de la vida; el don de sa-

ber cuando algo anda mal y hacer

lo correcto; el don de creer en nues-

tras propias habilidades; el don de seguir ade-

lante, etc., etc.

Podríamos alargar esta lista para incluir otros

como una palabra bondadosa; la mano que se

extiende para ayudar; la seguridad de nuestras

oraciones; la constancia de nuestra compañia; el

don de nuestro silencio o apoyo durante chismes;

el don del perdón dado libremente; el don de no

permitir que nuestros labios digan las palabras “Te

lo dije” o “¿Qué nunca aprendaerás?” o

cualquier otro comentario sarcástico. Estos dones

al igual que los dones de fe, esperanza y amor y

UNIDOS EN MISION—2016

Es un placer informarles que la Campaña de

Unidos en Misión 2016 está oficialmente cerrada y

que ha sido un gran éxito. Gracias a su recono-

cida preocupación y generosidad llegamos a la

hecho, logramos sobrepasar nuestra meta y San

Benito se benefició con unos cuantos miles de
