Sunday of Divine Mercy

April 23, 2017

Dear friends of Jesus and Brendan,

I am still filled with gratitude for the beautiful participation of so many people in the wide variety of services of Holy Week: in English and Spanish and in Ukrainian. We had the privilege of celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation with you. I know Sarah Jane and the choir and Coro Hispano had to be grateful for your joining in the singing at all of the celebrations. The help of many of our young people and other volunteers along with the parish staff enhanced the beauty of the week. In your name, I welcome our newly baptized: Maribel Inocensia Cardoso and John Augustine Chan, along with the young people and children: Justin Denik Anderson, Kevin Cuahutencos, Roy Cuahutencos, Dayana Duran, Joselyn Michelle Mizhquiri, and John Michael Mizhquiri Uruchima and Marilyn Cuahutencos who was received into the church. I pray that you will become more and more involved in the life of the church and the parish. It is a joy and privilege to accompany you on the journey of faith. Today we celebrate DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY! Pope Francis has proclaimed this the Age of Mercy... In the midst of so much violence in society and throughout the world, there is a great need for the message of mercy and for all believers to live the message of mercy each day. Join us this afternoon at 3:00pm, the Hour of Mercy, as we pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament along with Benediction. I am glad the parking lot fence is finished. Some cement work needs to be done along with the painting of new lines. There are now 48 flags displayed in the balcony representing the countries of origin of our parishioners... If any flags are missing, please let us know. We are Catholic in every way!. Tickets are available for the Card Party in May and will be available next week for our 110th Anniversary Dinner Dance in September. Please pray for our young people who are pre-paring for 1st Communion and Confirmation in May. Eucharistic Exposition and Adoration will resume on Monday! Spread the word!!!

Peace and Easter blessings, Father Peter

ARISE MEETING Tuesday, April 25 @ 7 pm

in the Villani Center

Make a Holy Hour.

Go to Confession.

Over the past few weeks a great deal of work has been done in and around the parish build-ings... The replacement of the lintels above the top floor windows on the parking lot side of the school has been completed along with needed pointing around the windows and between floors at a cost of $23,000. This project was paid from a recent small estate we received.

The replacement of the parking lot fence had to be moved up due to the danger of certain sections falling. This project which cost just over $22,000 was paid from your gifts in the Generations of Faith Campaign. The church bathroom renovation will take place in the fall after more money is available from Genera-tions of Faith. We are still working with Con Edison on our energy conservation project. All the lights have been replaced in the rectory and in the gym. The work in the auditorium and the parish hall will be completed soon. Some work has been accomplished in the church, but there are some problems with the fixtures in the ceiling. The money for this project is also from the above mentioned estate.

Please try to stay current in paying your Gener-ations of Faith Pledge and in helping us reach our Annual Catholic Appeal Goal. We can accomplish so much TOGETHER!

ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT

We are still in need of more volunteers to cover each hour as well as for many people to stop in and visit with Jesus during Adoration time. We encourage you to come a few minutes early to sign the Adoration book inside the Chapel entrance.

Week #1 - 15 Things to Do in the Midst of Suffering

Suffering is a mystery we all face at some time in our lives. Whether it is physical, emotional, or spiritual,

it will test our faith. Internationally known speaker Jeff Cavins shares personal insights he gained through his own physical pain. He shows us how we can join our sufferings with those of Jesus on the cross, bringing renewed meaning to the suffering we experience in our lives. CD available at kiosk.

Sunday, June 18, is the Feast of Corpus Christi, the Body and Blood of Christ. It is a great tradition in the church to celebrate the day with a Procession and Benediction at a number of

outside altars. It would be great to have the pres-ence of our 1st Communicants and Confirmandi and all of our parish groups. The procession would take place after the 11:00 Mass with 3 altars along the way. We hope that a number of groups or groups of friends would prepare and decorate the altars for benediction with flowers, flags, and other decorations. Please think about it. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Father Peter.

We hope that everyone will want to join us for this celebration. If you would like to help with any part of the day, please leave your name and phone number at the rectory as soon as possible.
