New Member, Diane Fenrich, is offering Gentle Yoga Wednesdays, 9:30-10:30am, Wor-ship Center Lobby, beginning November 1. Bring a yoga mat, a bottle of water, and a

small pillow.

Diane has a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Joseph's College in New York and is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist with a minor in Psychology. She has worked at Southside Hospital on Long Island, NY for over 10 years running programs and groups for psychiatric patients. She also formulated exercise programs for their multiple sclero-sis and wheel chair patients. Over the years, she has taught exercise, dance, and yoga in many venues.

The program she is offering here at Hudson First UMC is Gentle Yoga (Christian based) which is designed for those who are in need of a slower, more relaxed type of exercise. Gentle yoga lets you move all body parts in a way that is not intrusive or uncomfortable and allows your body to relax while improving flexibility. Deep breathing is important for the proper flow of oxygen to the heart, brain, and lungs. Join Diane on Wednesdays for this relaxing class!

We believe that above all else, the chief thing that God wants from the tithe is the heart of the tither. After all, He doesn’t really need our money — He al-ready owns everything. According to Psalm 24:1: The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.

So, although God uses the money that we give in our tithes, He doesn’t exactly need it. God is sovereign and infinite, and commands all of the world’s resources. Why, then, does He want us to give our tithe?

Because our gifts and tithes come with our hearts attached. Luke 12:34 states it pretty plainly: For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

The important thing about our money is that it is linked to our hearts. God doesn’t need our money, but He desperately desires our hearts. And giving a por-tion of our money to God is a guaranteed way to give Him access to our hearts.

Where our treasure is, there our hearts will be also. When we give to God, we’re uniting our hearts with His heart. Our finances go to support and expand His work on the earth. We become tangibly invested in His kingdom. We are no longer people who show up at church on Sunday and sit in a pew hoping to be enter-tained. Rather, we are active participants in the King-dom of God. We invest our hearts into His work when we also invest our money.

A BIG PROBLEM

While we were at our son’s house waiting out Hurri-cane Irma, my granddaughter asked me to help her make a peanut butter sandwich. She is 11 and I wondered what the problem was. Then I saw what she had done. She had a big glob of chunky pea-nut butter right in the middle of the bread. Of course, there was no way she could smooth that out without tearing the bread and making a mess of things. No wonder she needed help!

I showed her how trying to spread the huge lump all at once would never work but, if we took a little at a time and spread it, eventually it would all be smooth with no holes in the bread.

That’s how it is with problems we face. If we tackle a little bit at a time we can eliminate the problem with-out being overwhelmed.

It works with people too. If there is someone you just can’t agree with and so avoid, try to find just one thing you can agree on, then another, etc. Pretty soon you will find you can agree on many things and be civil to each other.
