We welcome everyone including those who are single, married, divorced, crying newborns, tired parents, and doting grandparents. We welcome those who are “just browsing” and those who know every hymn and praise song ever written. We welcome those who think the earth is flat, can’t spell, or because grandma is in town—you wanted to go to church. You have found a perfectly imperfect church filled with perfectly imperfect people who worship our perfect Lord. First time guests - please pickup a welcome gift at the wel-come desk in the lobby. Once again, welcome!

Singin’ in the rain…

Maybe you remember Gene Kelly’s classic lyrics: “I'm singing in the rain, just singing in the rain. What a glorious feelin' - I'm happy again. I'm laughing at clouds, so dark up above. The sun's in my heart, and I'm ready for love. Let the stormy clouds chase, eve-ryone from the place. Come on with the rain, I've a smile on my face. I walk down the lane, with a happy refrain… Just singin', Singin' in the rain.” Can’t you just see him swinging that umbrella as he dances in puddles and makes the best of the weather?

Humanity can predict and even control a great deal more today than at any other time in history. But, weather… is an inexact science at best. And, we still cannot control the clouds—either the cumulus in the sky or the dark times that can accumulate in our life. Things still go “bump in the night.” Finances and family, emotional – physical – mental health, in every area of life we experience both desired and undesired change.

I love this quote from Vivian Green: “Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass... it's about learning how to dance in the rain!” She and Gene Kelly seemed to understand Psalm 69:29-30: “I am poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high. I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.” Have you noticed a “mole hill” becomes a “mountain” when we focus on it? Oh, it’s not that a mole hill isn’t a problem – moles destroy a nice lawn – but a mole infestation can be tackled; a mountain, on the other hand, takes serious equipment to move.

We all face adversity in our life. It's not the adversity, but how we react to it, that determines the joy and happiness in our lives. During tough times, do we spend too much time feeling sorry for ourselves, or can we, with gratitude... learn how to dance in the rain? I know, it sounds simplistic. But, it worked for the Psalm writer… and it works for me and millions of others. Gratitude can change your attitude. I like the way Sarah Breathnach has said it: “When we choose not to focus on what is missing from our lives but are grateful for the abundance that's present... We experience heav-en on earth.”

Have you learned to sing in the rain? There are two ways: pretend or contend. The root is the same in both of those words and life philosophies… “tend” – you have to deal with what’s in front of you. If you “pre”-tend you put a fantasy in front of the issue and act as if it wasn’t there… vacations are good at that. But, if you “con” tend you bring some-thing into the battle with you. For Christians, that something is really Someone… Jesus Christ—God’s Son is in our heart. I’ve never had to splash through a puddle alone and neither do you.

This Thanksgiving, whether the weather is gloomy or the outlook is bright, let’s pull out our umbrella and let our faith help us dance with God. Happy Thanksgiving… pastor Jerry

Acts 28:20

Numbered lists grab our attention. In the checkout aisle or on the internet, we gravitate toward headings such as “10 ways to lose weight by summer!” or “3 simple steps to acing that test!”

Ancient Jewish sages urged people to count out and speak at least 100 bless-ings, or statements of gratitude, each day. What would happen if we inten-tionally listed 100 blessings daily? Can you imagine?!

What if the first blessing we counted was simply the day itself? “Thank you, God, for this brand new day!” “Bless my use of this day, Lord, that I might glo-

rify you.” Scripture encourages such awareness and promises an additional blessing in return: “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12, NIV). -Heidi Mann

A grateful THANK YOU to all who volunteered and shopped at our annual Arts & Crafts Fair! Special acknowl-

edgement to Ron Hawthorne for cooking his signature dish- ribs with a side of beans. As usual, our vendors were im-pressed with our friendliness and facility. Slightly over $2,000 was raised to benefit the church Scholarship Fund. Thanks so much for coming! See you next year!

Lisa and I want to thank everyone for the many beautiful “pastor appreciation” cards and gifts we received in October. It is heart-warming to know that we are appre-ciated. I am grateful that you recognize that Lisa and I are a team – much of what I can do as your pastor is because Lisa is my full-time ministry partner.

Blessings and joy, …Jerry & Lisa Milner
