What Makes Up Your Dues

Independent Contractor Agreement

• Establishes you as an IC and not an employee

• Contains your certification that you haven’t been convicted of crimes against minors

• Only require one form per member, not one per sport

EOA Code of Conduct

• Complete the certification form and return to Commissioner by August 1.

Eastern Officials Association – Code of Ethics and Conduct (“Code”)

Eastern Officials Association (EOA) believes the responsibility of all sports members is to act as impartial judges of sports competitions. EOA believes this responsibility carries with it an obligation to perform with accuracy, fairness and objectivity through an overriding sense of ethics and integrity.

All non-officiating representatives of the organization are also responsible to carry out any EOA business with the highest standards of ethics and integrity, always balancing the best interest of our members and customers.

EOA believes the integrity of officiating rests on the personal integrity and ethical conduct of each individual member. This integrity and conduct are the very basis of the future well-being and effectiveness of our Association. EOA shall, by programs of education and other means, encourage acceptance and implementation of our “Code.”

Code of Conduct for Eastern Officials Association:

1. I bear a great responsibility for engendering public confidence in sports. 2. I shall be free of obligation to any interest other than the impartial and fair judging of sports competitions,

managing the business of the association, and representing the association to the public and customers. 3. I hold and maintain the basic tenets of officiating which include history, integrity, neutrality, respect, sensitivity,

professionalism, discretion and tactfulness. 4. I shall master both rules of the game and mechanics necessary to enforce the rules, and shall exercise authority

in an impartial, firm and controlled manner. 5. I shall uphold the honor and dignity of the profession in all interactions with student-athletes, coaches, school

administrators, colleagues, and the public. 6. I shall display and execute superior communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal. 7. I recognize that anything which may lead to a conflict of interest, either real or perceived, must be avoided.

Gifts, favors, special treatment, privileges, employment or a personal relationship with a school, team, or sports association which can compromise the perceived impartiality of officiating must be avoided.

8. I shall prepare myself both physically and mentally, shall dress neatly and appropriately, and shall conduct myself in a manner consistent with the high standards of the profession while representing the organization at sporting events, association sponsored meetings and events, and during times representing the association to the public.

9. I shall not be party to actions designed to unfairly limit or restrain access to officiating, officiating assignments or to association membership. This includes selection for positions of leadership based upon economic factors, race, creed, color, age, sex, physical handicap, country or national origin.

10. I shall be punctual and professional in fulfilling all contractual obligations. 11. I shall work with other members and the governing body of the association in a constructive and cooperative

manner. 12. I shall resist every temptation and outside pressure to use my position as an official to benefit myself or others. 13. I shall never participate in any form of illegal gambling on sports contests, will never gamble on any sporting

event in which I have either a direct or indirect involvement, and will never gamble on events involving high school and recreational athletics.

14. I shall not make false or misleading statements regarding my qualifications, rating, credentials, experience, training, or competence.

15. I shall accept responsibility for all actions taken and accept discipline in accordance with Association policies and procedures.
