SEPTEMBER 2017 It’s Time to Reveal Our New FabLab Space! Join us Thursday September 21 st at 5:30pm for our Back to School Night. Meet your child’s teacher, see their classroom, and tour our facility. There will be raffles, activities, community partners, and much more! Parents, students, and community are invited to join us at our Fablab Reveal Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 4:30pm on September 29 th ! We are so excited to show off the hard work of our science teacher Fardusa Sharif, students, and staff. The event will kick off with introduction speeches by involved stakeholders, move on to the ceremonial ribbon cutting, and then will proceed to student ran science experiment stations where everyone will have an opportunity to have a hands-on FabLab experience. Last year we were awarded the $100,000 FabLab Grant from the Northrop Grumman Foundation. The funds were used to buy much needed supplies, tools, and resources that will prepare us for the launch of our Next Generation STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program. We can’t wait for the big reveal! Enter to Win a free IPAD from HTVCS! Things to Know…

Thursday Folders Starting September 11th, 2017 our school will be sending home information folders with your child every Thursday. These folders will contain important school updates, forms, and event information. Please be sure check these folders for any forms that need to be returned to school.

New Counseling Program

Restorative Response to Discipline- Using the restorative justice model, students in need of discipline will engage in restorative conversation, reflect on their behavior and mend harm. Immediate Response Counseling- If your child is going through a crisis during school hours that needs immediate attention. Brief Individual Counseling- Brief weekly counseling for students who need more attention when learning a particular personal/social/emotional skill or are experiencing a personal issue. Group Counseling- Later in the year groups will be offered that target the common needs of our students. Mediations- Assist in mediating a fight or argument that students cannot resolve on their own. Classroom Guidance- Classroom lessons that focus particular social-emotional skill, the counselor will write and deliver a lesson tailored to their needs. Referrals to Resources and Community Services- If you or your child are in need of more information about an issue you are facing, the counselor can aid in connecting you to services available in the community.

Pick Up and Drop Off-

• Student drop-off and pick-up have been moved to the north side of campus along Saranac Street.

• Please drop off at the gate on the corner of 69th and Saranac.

• The gate will open at 7:45. There is no supervision until that time so students can not enter.

• Once gates are open, 6-8th students do “Walk and Talk” around the outer field. K-5th go to the lunch tables until playground opens.

• The main entrance is to be used ONLY for parents in need of going to the main office and tardy students.

• Please pick up students at Saranac and 68th. Staff will be there to supervise and move traffic along.

Rebecca Mariotti is our new School Counselor! She is very excited to get to know our incredible students and be part of the Tubman community.
