Welcome Back & Happy New Year!
A very warm welcome back after the Christmas break and Happy New Year too! It has
been lovely to see everyone back at school fresh faced and ready to begin the Spring
Term. Let’s look forward to 2020 being another successful year at Perranporth School.
School Clubs
All after school clubs will begin from Monday next week. For the next term our clubs will con-
tinue to run in partnership with Go Active who are an external specialist sports provider. There
are lots of clubs on offer this term with forest club, netball, tag-rugby, choir, film club, cod-
ing/blogging and football all on the list. Sign up letters have already gone home with
information about the different clubs and days they run. If you haven’t received a
letter and would like to sign up for clubs, please ask for a copy in the School Office.
Launch Days
This week all of the children have had an exciting start to their new topics and new learning! The children in Key
Stage 2 are learning all about The Rainforest and the different natural and geographical features there. To fire up
the children’s enthusiasm, on Monday the children all spent time in our Forest Classroom doing lots of different
learning tasks and activities.
Children in Key Stage 1 were also getting excited about their new topic The Natural World. They too spent time in
the Forest Classroom this week, getting to know the nature around our school and doing lots of different outdoor
learning that they’ll be able to use for the topic work ahead!
Crossing Patrol & Road Works
Earlier this week we sent a reminder home, informing parents that there is no longer a crossing pa-
trol outside school. CORMAC are currently recruiting for the position, but in the meantime, we are
asking parents of children who walk to and from school alone, to ensure they have got provision in
place to ensure their child’s safety. We have been informed that school staff or parents are not al-
lowed or insured to cover this role unless they apply for the position and have full training.
Unfortunately there are also extensive roadworks taking place outside school. During this time we would like to ask
parents to drive and park responsibly around the school and not block pavements or pathways. Please do remem-
ber that parents can park at Wheal Leisure car park. Also, if the road works are causing parents to be late for drop
off and work, we do have a Breakfast Club which can take children from 8:00am which might help parents avoid
the most congested times.
Thank you.
Australia Day
You will have no doubt heard lots of very sad news about the terrible bush fires
that are sweeping across Australia at the moment and causing awful problems
and devastation. Well, Eden in Year 2 felt very strongly that our school should try to
do something to help. She shared her views with the School Parliament who also
agreed and then got their thinking caps on! It was decided that we would like to
recognise the official ‘Australia Day’! This day is
celebrated by Australians on Sunday the 26th
January. As we aren’t in school on Sundays, we
will be recognising the day on Friday 24th January. School Parlia-
ment thought it would be a lovely idea for all the children at Perran-
porth to come to school dressed in Aussie themed clothing or in the
colours of the Australian flag (red, white and blue). The teachers will
be putting on Australian themed learning activities throughout the
day and also looking at the bush fire crisis and the impact it has had.
We are asking the children bring a minimum £1.00 donation in on this
day, or more if they would like! They may even choose to do some
sponsored events outside of school to raise money that they would
also like to contribute.
All funds raised will be sent to The Rotary Club Perranzabuloe who are supporting the crisis through their
links with the ‘Rotary Down-Under’. Additionally, the Rotary Club are also fund raising for the cause this
Saturday at the Co-op if people would like to make donations. Thank you.
Netball News
A massive well done to the Year 5 and 6 netballers who headed off to Newquay on Thursday this week. The chil-
dren were taking part in the Newquay Schools Netball Festival, competing against lots of local teams. The Perran-
porth netballers showed brilliant shooting and passing skills, but more than that, they also showed themselves to
have excellent sporting behaviour! We were very proud of their performance throughout their matches and they
managed to come in 3rd place overall! Well done to all!
