Rajasthan launched Indira Gandhi Urban Credit Card Scheme 2021

• The state government of Rajasthan has introduced Indira Gandhi Urban Credit Card Scheme 2021 to provide interest-free loan up to Rs 50,000 as a financial support to 5 lakh beneficiaries

• The scheme will be applicable for one year and loans can be sanctioned till March 31, 2022.

• The loan moratorium period will be 3 months and loan repayment period will be 12 months.

• Those having monthly income of Rs 15,000 or family income Rs 50,000 per month will not be

eligible for the scheme.

West Bengal Government gets 4 SKOCH awards

• The West Bengal Government has been honoured with 4 SKOCH Awards for various schemes under Ease of Doing Business Initiatives.

• The awards are given by Skoch Foundation to recognize top performing government organisations.

• Platinum Award – ‘Silpasathi’ – The online single window portal

• Gold Award – Scheme for Auto Renewal of Enlistment through online system for urban Areas

• Silver Award – Scheme for Online issuance of Trade licences in rural areas

2021 Skytrax World Airport Awards

• Hyderabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has been awarded as the ‘Best Regional Airport in India and Central Asia’.

NITI Aayog Releases Handbook to Guide EV Charging Infrastructure

• The Handbook named ‘Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Implementation was released by NITI Aayog. The objective of the book is to provide guidance to the state governments and local bodies about policy making and setting up of norms related to charging networks for Electric Vehicle (EV).

• It has been developed by NITI Aayog in association with the Ministry of Power (MoP), Department of Science and Technology(DST), Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and World Resources Institute(WRI) India.

• India has set an ambitious goal of increasing the Electric Vehicle numbers to 30% by 2030.

DRDO Successfully Testfires Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile

• Defence Research and Development Organisation successfully test fired the Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile with a new Made-in-India Turbofan Engine ‘Manik’ from the Integrated Test Range in Odisha.

• The missile flew for around 150 km with an indigenous cruise engine.

• It is an Advanced version of Nirbhay Missile – a Subsonic Cruise Missile.

Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter Detects Presence of Water Molecules on Moon

• The Imaging Infrared Spectrometer instrument on the Chandrayaan-2 lunar orbiter has detected the presence of both Hydroxyl ions and Water Molecules on the surface of the moon.

• Research is authored by Former ISRO Chairman AS Kiran Kumar.

In a first, Chhattisgarh recognises forest resource rights in an urban area

• Chhattisgarh recognized Community Forest Resource Rights in an urban area, making it the first state in India to do so.

• In this regard, certificates for the same were distributed during a program in Raipur

• The state has recognized forest rights of three wards in Nagari nagar panchayat of Dhamtari district

• The other area is Sitanadi Udanti Tiger Reserve across Dhamtari and Gariyaband districts.

• Section 3 (1) (i) of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, recognized by Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006, gives right to protect, regenerate or conserve or manage any community forest resource which the people from tribal communities have been traditionally protecting and conserving for sustainable use.

• Atlas of tribal communities living in Chhattisgarh was also unveiled.

• A special five-part teaching module on the all-round development of tribal areas was also launched. It will be used to train public representatives and members of the Panchayati Raj system.

Installed Renewable Energy Capacity of India Crossed 100 GW

• The total installed renewable energy capacity in India, excluding large Hydro, has crossed the milestone of 100 GigaWatts (GW). With this, India holds 4th position in the world in terms of installed Renewable Energy (RE) capacity, 5th in solar and 4th in wind in terms of installed capacity.

• India’s target of 450 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030

PM released Capitalization Support Funds to SHGs

• Prime Minister virtually participated in ‘Atmanirbhar Narishakti se Samvad’ where he interacted with women Self Help Groups members/community resource persons promoted under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission

• During the event, he released capitalization support funds of Rs. 1625 Crore to over 4 lakh SHGs as a major financial support to increase the scope of entrepreneurship among women on lines of AatmaNirbhar Bharat.

• He also released 25 crore as seed money for 7500 SHG members under the PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme of Ministry of Food Processing Industries

PM Address on 75th Independence Day Celebrations

• PM laid the vision for the country for the next 25 years, he stated “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas”.

• Pradhan Mantri ‘Gati Shakti’ National Master Plan for Infrastructure will act as the ‘National Infrastructure Master Plan’ and will help in setting a holistic and integrated approach in infrastructure construction. Rs. 100 Lakh Crore will be allotted for the Gati Shakti programme.

• 75 Vande Bharat trains to be rolled out in 75 weeks of Amrit Mahotsav of Independence to connect every corner of India. Vande Bharat is an indigenous semi-high speed train set. It is manufactured by Hyderabad-based engineering firm ‘Medha’

• To fight malnutrition, the government has set a target to provide fortified rice to the poor through the Public Distribution System, Mid-Day meals Scheme and Others by 2024.

• PM Modi announced, For the 1st time Ever, Girls will be allowed to enroll in the Sainik Schools across the country.After a two and half year Pilot project in Mizoram, the Government has decided to open the Sainik Schools for the Girls.There are 33 Sainik Schools in India, they are run by the Sainik Schools Society under the Union ministry of defence (MoD).Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced during Budget 2021 that 100 new Sainik schools will be set up.

• Launch of the National Hydrogen Mission to make India the global production hub for clean hydrogen fuel production and exports. An amount of INR 1500 Crore was set aside to achieve India’s target of 175 GW by 2022 & also for NHEM.

• Government will launch an E-commerce platform for Self Help Groups (SHGs) to promote their products.

• Target to make India energy Independent before 2047.

• Indus Central University to be established in Ladakh, to make it a Center of higher education.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana completes 7th Anniversary

• Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana completed its 7th Anniversary on 15th August, 2021. It was launched on February 28, 2014.

• As per government data, PMJDY now has 42.89 crore beneficiaries with INR 1,43,834 crore total balance.

• The average balance of PMJDY accounts stands at around INR 3000-3500.

• According to the Global Findex database of the World Bank, 80% of people above 15 years of age in the lower-middle income group have a bank account now compared to 53 per cent in 2014.

• It is implemented by the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance.

• Slogan of the Scheme is “Mera Khatha, Bhagya Vidhatha” (My account, fate restorer).

• Guinness World Records has certified that the “Most bank accounts opened in one week as part of the Financial Inclusion Campaign is 1,80,96,130.

India’s 1st & World’s largest Cattle Genomic Chip ‘IndiGau’

• Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology; Minister of State (Independent Charge) Earth Sciences released ‘IndiGau’, India’s first and world’s largest Cattle Genomic Chip for the conservation of pure varieties of indigenous cattle breeds like, Gir, Kankrej, Sahiwal, Ongole etc.

• The chip was developed by the scientists of National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NAIB), Hyderabad.

• It is an autonomous institution under the aegis of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology

Maharashtra Launched E-crop Survey Initiative

• Maharashtra launched the e-crop survey initiative across the state

• This will be jointly implemented by the department of revenue and agriculture and Tata Trusts.

• The government of Maharashtra has introduced a digitized 7/12 document, an extract from the ‘Land Register’ that the farmers can now access through mobile phones.

‘PROOF’ app to monitor Timely Completion of Projects

• Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha launched PROOF ‘Photographic Record of On-site Facility’ app which is designed and developed by National Informatics Centre (NIC), J&K.

• The app will monitor the progress of all works of different departments in order to bring more transparency in the governance system.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights conducted a nationwide assessment of minority schools

• The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights conducted a nationwide assessment of minority schools and released a report titled ‘Impact of Exemption under Article 15 (5) with regards to Article 21A of the Constitution of India on Education of Minority Communities’.

• National Commission for Minorities (NCM) under the NCM Act, 1992 has notified Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Zoroastrians (Parsis), Jains as the Minority Communities of India.

• The report by NCPCR gave an analysis of 23,487 minority schools across India. As per the report, 62.50 percent of students in minority schools belong to non-minority communities.

• Only 8.76 percent of total students in minority schools belong to socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

• The minority schools have only 7.95 percent of the minority children population in the states.

• It recommended to the government to bring all minority schools, including madrasas, under the purview of the RTE and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan campaign.

National Automobile Scrappage Policy in Investor Summit 2021

• Prime Minister virtually addressed the Investor Summit 2021 in Gujarat and launched the National Automobile Scrappage Policy to discard/Scrap the old inefficient and polluting vehicles in an environment-friendly manner.

• The policy will generate investment of more than Rs 10000 crores to set up 450-500 Automated Testing Units (ATU) and 60-70 Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSF) /scrapping centres across India.

• Under the policy, a certificate will be provided on scrapping the old vehicle and those who are having that certificate will not need to pay money for registration on the purchase of a new vehicle.

• After completion of the limits of 15 years (for government vehicle)/ 20 years (for personal vehicle), the vehicles will undertake scientific automated fitness tests (not only on the basis of age of vehicle) through authorized, automated testing centres.

• The summit was arranged to invite investment for setting up vehicle scrapping infrastructure under the Voluntary Vehicle-Fleet Modernization Program or the Vehicle Scrapping Policy.

• The summit also focuses on the synergies presented by the ship-breaking industry at Alang, Gujarat, Asia’s largest ship recycling and scrapping yard, for the development of an integrated scrapping hub.

• Tata Motors signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat state government through the ports and transport department to support the setting up of a vehicle scrapping facility in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Karkhandar Scheme to uplift traditional handicrafts of J&K

• Jammu & Kashmir has introduced the Karkhandar scheme to support the local artisans and weavers and to promote the traditional handicrafts of J&K.

• The scheme also aims to provide training in the field of handicrafts sector.

• Under this scheme, the meritorious trainees will be given an honorarium of Rs 2000 per month and the trainer will get Rs 2000 per month for each trainee in addition to Rs 25000 for logistics,

raw materials and others.

Odisha to become 1st Indian state to Provide Smart Health Cards

• Odisha is all set to launch India’s first ‘Smart Health Cards scheme’ under the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana.

• The beneficiaries of National and State Food Security Schemes, Annapurna and Antyodaya schemes will get this card and henceforth each family can avail treatment cost up to Rs 5 lakh per annum.

• Women members can avail benefits up to Rs 10 lakh annually.

World’s 2nd Largest Refurbished Gene Bank at New Delhi

• Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare inaugurated the world’s 2nd -largest refurbished state-of-the-art National Gene Bank at the National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, Pusa, New Delhi.

• Kaziranga National Park of Assam became India’s first National park to be equipped with satellite phones

• The 10 satellite phones were procured by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority at an estimated cost of Rs 16 lakhs.

‘Fit India Freedom Run 2.0’

• Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur launched the nationwide programme named ‘Fit India Freedom Run 2.0’

• The program will be organised in 75 villages in each of the 744 districts and 30,000 educational institutions across India.

4 New Districts and 18 New Tehsils in Chhattisgarh

• Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced the creation of 4 New Districts and 18 New Tehsil in the state. New districts named as Manendragarh, Mohla Manpur, Shakti and Sarangarh- Bilaigarh. With this formation, there will be a total of 32 districts in the state.

Pilot Launch of International Bullion Exchange at GIFT City

• IFSCA launched the pilot run of ‘International Bullion Exchange’.

• The exchange was planned to go live on the Foundation Day of IFSCA i.e. on October 1, 2021.

Guidelines for Locker in Banks

• The Reserve Bank of India has issued revised guidelines for both new and existing Safe Deposit Locker and Safe Custody Article Facility with the banks.

• At present, banks do not have any liability towards lockers. The guidelines would come into effect from January 1, 2022.

• The banks are directed to incorporate a clause in the ‘locker agreement’ for prohibiting the hirer from keeping anything illegal or hazardous in

lockers.

• Banks should renew their locker agreements with existing locker customers by January 1, 2023.

• The banks are instructed to compensate the customers in case of incidents such as fire, theft, burglary, dacoity, robbery, building collapse or fraud committed by the bank’s employees.

• The compensation has to be an amount equivalent to 100 times the existing annual rent of the safe deposit locker.

• RBI allows banks to obtain a Term Deposit at the time of allotment only in case of a hirer neither operates the locker nor pays the rent.

• It will cover 3 years’ rent along with the charges for breaking open the locker (in case of not being paid for 3 years).

• The bank should not insist on the TD from the existing locker holders or those who have a satisfactory operative account.

• Banks are provided with the discretion to break open any locker if the rent has not been paid by the customer continuously for 3 years.

• The Banks need to send an email and an SMS alert to the registered email ID and mobile number of the customer before the end of the day to confirm the date and time of the locker operation.

• If the locker remains inoperative for 7 years and the hirer cannot be located the bank could transfer the content to the customer’s nominees/legal heir or dispose of the articles in a transparent manner.

• The above guidelines were issued by RBI under the powers conferred by Section 35A and Sections 45ZC to 45ZF of the Banking Regulation (BR) Act, 1949, read with Section 56 of the BR Act.
