THIRTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

NOVEMBER 5, 2017

Jesus warned the scribes and Pharisees, the teachers and rulers of Israel, to teach and

serve their people with humility and sincerity rather than with pride and self-seeking

privileges and honor. They went to great lengths to draw attention to their religious status

and practices. In a way they wanted to be good models of observant Jews. "See how well

we observe all the ritual rules and regulations of our religion!" In their misguided zeal

for religion they sought recognition and honor for themselves rather than for God.

They made the practice of their faith a burden rather than a joy for the people they were

supposed to serve.

True respect for God inclines us to humble ourselves and to submit to his wisdom and

guidance. We cannot be taught by God unless we first learn to listen to his word and

then obey his instruction.

"Lord Jesus, you became a servant for my sake to set me free from the tyranny of selfish pride and self-concern.

Teach me to be humble as you are humble and to love others generously with selfless service and kindness."

Eucharistic Adoration is

the 1st Sunday of the

month at Annunciation.

NEXT ADORATION IS

Sunday, November 5.

November Intentions of Pope Francis: Christians in Asia That Christians in Asia, bearing witness to the Gospel in word and deed, may promote dialogue, peace, and mutual understanding, especially with those of other religions.

~FAITH~ FAMILY~ COMMUNITY~

~Happy Father’s Day~

The father is the head of the household and a leader and protector of

the faith in the family. Father’s Day is also a time to remember the

incredible love our Father in heaven has for us. A love that created us

into being. A love so great that He sent his only Son to redeem us. His

love is greater than any fear or worry we have or any challenge or

obstacle we may face, and so we should always remember we can turn

to Him and He will welcome us with open arms:

“I said to you, ‘Have no dread or fear of them. The Lord your God,

who goes before you, is the one who will fight for you, just as he did

for you in Egypt before your very eyes, and in the wilderness, where

you saw how the Lord your God carried you, just as one carries a

child….’” Deuteronomy 1: 29-31

This Father’s Day let’s remember to also pray for Father Joe, that

God gives him wisdom and strength as he works tirelessly to guide us

in our spiritual growth toward the Father in heaven.

MARRIAGE MINUTE Do you have unrealistic expectations

about what marriage is supposed to be

like? Of course we have a right to expect

certain things from our spouse, such as

time, attention, affection and help. But

we can get into trouble when we expect

things that aren’t reasonable.

For instance:

• You expect that he can fix things

(because your dad did).

• You expect her to keep the house as

clean as she did before you had 3 kids.

• You expect your spouse to react the

way that you would, even though he is a

totally unique person!

These expectations “tie up heavy

burdens” for our spouses to shoulder.

Many of our marriage enrichments teach

skills that help spouses approach these

expectations in a healthy way. Sign up

today at

www.JoyfulMarriageProject.com.

Many thanks to our Confirmation

your purity of heart, which consists in

appraising things and weighing them in

the balance of God’s will.”
