Dear Friends, Thank you to everyone who participated at one of our feast day masses last week! I am happy to inform you that your “Gift To The Parish” was more than $26,000! More envelopes are still coming in- I will give you the exact number next week! In the middle of this pandemic and all that’s going on- this shows (once again) – your love for this parish. I am grateful. CONGRATULATIONS 226 young people received the Sacrament of Confirmation over 8 beautiful ceremonies

during the month of August ! Our parish congratulates these young people as well as their parents and new spon-

sors! We are a blessed parish to have so many young people participating in the life of the Church.

NEW UPDATES RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: Classes will begin during the SECOND week of October. Most clas-ses will take place online- there will be times when the children will gather in the gym or church (with social distanc-ing). Given the crisis of the virus there will be NO FEE this year for the program. To enroll, families must be registered parishioners (since June 2020) and commit to attending a mass on Sunday or during the week as a family. If you are not a registered parishioner you will need to register AND to live in Elmhurst. At this time we are not able to take children from outside the parish. Registration for classes will be open (online) starting Monday, September 14. We are delaying registration as we await greater clarity from the local government and our diocese. Please be patient with us- all will be well! IMPORTANT LABOR DAY WEEKEND IS COMING UP! The parish office will be closed Friday, September 4 and Mon-day, September 7th. Masses on Labor Day, Monday September 7th will be on line only! The church will be closed all day Monday Sept 7. Please watch the mass at 11:15 am or 6:30 pm on our webite: stbartselmhurst.org; or Facebook-Live or YouTube. REMINDER: there is no obligation to attend mass on Sunday. You are encouraged to watch the mass from your home. I do encourage you to do your best to attend mass once per week. Pick a day of the week and attend with your family. NEED A LETTER FROM YOUR CHURCH?

In order to give letters of recommendation, letters attesting to character, sponsor

certificates, and other documents that may have legal or religious purposes, it is

required that persons requesting those documents be registered and be active members of Saint Bartholomew Parish

at least three months prior to your request. We can not provide any of these documents to people not

registered in the parish.

Our young people will receive the sacrament of confirmation

on August 22 and 29. We will offer 4 ceremonies each day.

BAPTISM

Our baptism days and times for August and September are now full. Baptism dates for October will be announced in the September 5/6 bulletin. Families need to live in our parish (Elmhurst) in order to register for baptism.

Our parish does not have the financial capacity to help every family living in Elmhurst to purchase food. If we could we would- but we cannot. At this time we are assisting our registered and active parishioners. Please email us: your name, registration number (found on your parish envelopes) your address and phone. We can provide you with food vouchers to a local supermarket. Since the end of March we have given almost $12,000 in food vouchers to our registered parishioners. We hope to continue to assist! We need your help. Our Annual Catholic Appeal’s network of services has had to be flexible in this unprecedented time, and we anticipate we will need to maintain this response to meet the growing demand for support. Your partnership is critical as we navigate this situation.

Our mission remains the same, but COVID-19 has had a significant impact on our annual needs.

● We have served over 100,000 meals across our Dio-cese in response to the 200% increase in demand.

● Over 120 parishes offer daily live-stream coverage of Mass and 144 parishes communicate daily with parishioners using social media. ● Our educators were required to quickly implement in-novative distance learning tools. They remain committed to forming the hearts and minds of our Catholic youth.

● We have 30 hospital chaplains currently deployed across our boroughs consoling the sick and most vulnerable.

● And of course, our devoted clergy, who remain at the frontlines of this pandemic, continue to enrich our lives spir-itually and partner with our network of support services to address the growing local needs across our Diocese.
