About AugustanaThe Vikings, who are receiving votes in the latest AVCA poll, are 14-6 overall and 8-3 in the NSIC. They have won three in a row, including an upset of nationally-ranked Minnesota-Duluth on Oct. 12. They also beat No. 12-ranked MSU Mankato on the road on Oct. 6.Holly Hafemeyer leads the Augustana hitting attack with 245 kills, while ordain Spatenka has 214. Marissa Johnson has 611 set assists, while Grace Sanders has 276 digs.Ashley Buckley is in her fifth season as Augustana’s head coach with a record of 74-58 at the school.

About Wayne StateWayne State is 15-6 overall and 7-4 in the NSIC. The Wildcats suffered a three-set loss to Minnesota-Duluth on Oct. 13. What’s Ahead After playing 18 of its first 20 matches on the road, the Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team begins a five-match homestand this week, starting on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Northern State. The Dragons will then follow by hosting Augustana on Friday (7 p.m. first serve) and No. 18-ranked Wayne State on Saturday (4 p.m. first serve). The Dragons (12-8, 4-7 NSIC) lost to Upper Iowa in four sets and were swept by Winona State last weekend. MSUM is led by sophomore hitter Annie Palmquist, who has 228 kills and is hitting .241 for the season. Senior Heidi Lensing has 219 kills, while sophomore Maggie Gruber has 172 and freshman Kaitlin VanWinkle 157. Senior setter Anna Olson has 531 set assists, while senior libero Katy Ness has 469 digs (best in the NSIC). VanWinkle leads with 74 total blocks, an average of 0.99 per game. Tammy Blake, the dean of NSIC volleyball coaches, is in her 18th year at MSUM. She is 312-235 at the school.

Climbing the Charts--Ness has moved into second all-time in career digs at MSUM with 1,939.--Lensing is at 1,198 kills and is now sixth all-time in school history. She is just 36 kills away from fifth.--Olson is at 1,769 set assists, ranking her eighth all-time.

NSIC Players of the WeekNess became the first MSUM player to earn NSIC Player of the Week honors this season, and has earned the Defensive Player of the Week honors five times (Sept. 4, 10, 24, Oct. 1 and Oct. 8), most of any player.

NSIC preseason pollThe Dragons were picked to finish seventh in the NSIC preseason coaches poll. The Dragons received 146 votes in the poll, just five away from sixth-place Augustana. Defending national champion Concordia led the poll with 225 points and 15 first-place votes. The regular-season champion will be determined by a 20-game conference schedule and will host the top eight teams qualifying in the NSIC tournament, to be held on Nov. 16-18.

Having reached another memo-rable milestone, Tammy Blake launches her 18th season as head coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead in search of more goals in 2012.

The only coach to marshal the Dragons to the NCAA Division II post-season playoffs, Tammy Blake became the first and lone MSUM head coach to reach the 300-win plateau in 2011. A 13-14 finish lifted her overall record at MSU Moorhead to 300-227. During her 17-year run, MSU Moorhead advanced to the NCAA Division II Regional tournament play in 2000, 2004 and 2005 and claimed a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference cham-pionship in 2000.

The crowning jewel of her stay at MSUM was a remarkable 28-4 finish in 2000 that included a school record 17-match win streak, the return of the NSIC title to MSU Moorhead and a first ever appearance at the NCAA Division II North Central Regional Championships. It also earned Blake Regional Coach of the Year honors.

Blake was appointed the fifth head volleyball coach in Dragon history in 1995 replacing Becky Schulze. She joined MSUM after

four years as head coach at Vermillion High School in Vermillion, S.D. Her 1992-93 edition placed 11th on the final South Dakota High School poll.

She faced a major challenge in her first season at MSUM, including the upgrade from the NAIA to the powerful NCAA Division II, but Blake and the rebuilt Drag-ons posted a second place finish in the NSIC, the first of three straight league runner-up finishes. Blake directed a Division II-leading defense in 2011 while averaging 19.88 digs per game. All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference team member Katy Ness led the defensive game as her 6.03 digs per game set her at No. 8 in the country. Ness was one of three All-NSIC honorees for the Dragons on the season.

Blake graduated from USD in 1989 with a major in Physical Education/Health. Following her career at South Dakota, she spent two seasons at South Dakota State University as an assistant coach in volleyball and softball and earned a Master’s Degree.

A native of Sgt. Bluff, Iowa, Blake graduated from Sgt. Bluff-Luton High School in 1984. A four-sport letterwinner, she was a three-year regular in volleyball at outside hitter. A two-time Iowa All-State and a three-time All-War Eagle Confer-ence selection, Blake was voted Most Valuable Player as a junior and senior.
