Dear Parents and families,

Last week we held the first Board meeting for the year. At that meeting the

new executive structure for the board was established. I would like to

congratulate and thank Darryl Hill for taking on the position of Chairperson.

Darryl has been a member of the School Board for a number of years.

Shannon Fagan who has also been on the Board for a number of years has taken on the role of

Treasurer supported by Peter Good. Thank you to all these parents for their support of the school.

Next Friday the whole school will once again participate in the Bullying – No Way Action Day. You

may recall the school had a focus on this in Term 4 as well. On Monday morning four parents

joined me to review and discuss our school policy in regards to prevention of bullying behaviour.

Thank you to those parents for your input.

There were two points discussed they felt needed to be clear.

First the definition of Bullying behaviour is that it is a repeated, intentional, harmful act that

involves an in-balance of power. It is not conflict which can occur at all stages of children’s

development.

And secondly often children are reluctant to report the behaviour and will almost always inform

parents or friends in the first instance. Throughout the school we work with the children to

understand what Bullying Behaviour is and isn’t. Bullying behaviour is not tolerated and we work

with both perpetrators and children who are bullied when reports are made. We also work with

the children who witness bullying, to ensure they actually stand up and report the behaviour.

You can read more about the day here. https://bullyingnoway.gov.au

Fair Funding for Catholic Schools

As we head towards a State Election, parents are

encouraged to consider how each political party is

promising to support our Catholic schools.

Until recently – Catholic schools in South Australia

received the lowest level of funding in the country.

In November, the State Government announced that it

would increase recurrent funding to our schools. This

equates to a $14.3 million increase in 2018 and brings us

into much closer alignment with the amount Catholic

schools receive in other parts of the country. The State

Government also announced a capital grant of $5.5 million

indexed annually to CPI.

While this is good news for our schools, there is much

more that can be done to ensure our schools receive

adequate support.

You can read more at:

www.cesa.catholic.edu.au/news/fair-funding-campaign

In the last few weeks the children involved in the CRC have been consulted by Simon

Hutchinson from Climbing Trees on the final plan for the adventure play space to be situated

in the old loop. We are hopeful to move this project forward this term. Simon will consider

the feedback provided by the children and proceed with the construction.

A small version of the initial plan is below.

We welcome any parents who are interested in further policy consultations to contact the

office.

With every best wish

Liz Keogh

From the Director of Wellbeing

My Name is Meg Gould and I am currently on my first

placement as a social worker, studying at Flinders University. I

am completing a Masters in Social Work and I am so excited

to work with the children at All Saints closely alongside the

staff, doing whatever I can to assist in their wellbeing and

learning.

I will be on placement throughout the rest of Term 1 and Term 2, and I am

extremely eager to help the students thrive and become more conscious of

themselves and their surroundings. I have received a beautiful welcome not only

by the staff but the children as well. If you see me around the school please say

hello!

Hello, my name is Jia-Jyun Liao. I am a post graduate social

work student studying at Flinders University. I am completing

my first-year placement at All Saints and am really excited to

join the school.

I hope to meet many of you in person as I settle in and learn

more.

I have volunteered in a hearing impairment organisation,

which assisted children to rebuild their language system. I

have also been a part-time teacher in a primary school, so I have some

experience with children before.

I will do my absolute best to help in this school. Thank you to everyone for being

so welcoming. I look forward to working with all of you.

What’s a social worker doing in a school setting? “The school social work role is unique in its focus on the student in the school environment in order to facilitate successfu l learning outcomes through the relief of distress and removal of barriers or inequities. Students within schools have diverse abilities and needs. All students are entitled to a quality educational environment which:

promotes the total development of the child – intellectual, physical, social, creative, emotional; and creates learning outcomes which enable the young adult to take a satisfying role in their society and to have fair access to its resources.” (AASW Practice Standards

for School Social Workers)

If you have any questions about our role in the school environment, please feel free to ask us! https://www.aasw.asn.au/document/item/814

Bullying. No Way ! Next Friday, 16 March is National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. We will begin this day with a whole school Liturgy followed by a

Parent Information session led by Liz Keogh and myself. The children will participate in anti-bullying workshops throughout the day.

In Terms 1 and 2 we are fortunate enough to have two Social Work students, Meg Gould and Jia-Jyun Liao from Flinders University. They will be

supporting our school to implement and embed a range of wellbeing initiatives aimed at building our community.

Welcome Meg and Jyun!

School Photo Day — 20th & 26th March Instrumental Music Program

Please take the time to read the relevant information on the MSP

Photography payment envelope which came home with your child/ren

yesterday, and remember these helpful points:

Don’t seal envelopes inside each other. You can pay for all children in one

envelope however each child needs to have their own envelope on photo

day.

Family envelopes are available at the front office upon request and need

to be ordered before or on photography day. Please make your children

aware they are having a family photo taken.

Please enclose correct money as no change will be given. Cash, cheques,

credit card and money orders are accepted.

Why not give ONLINE ORDERING a go?! It’s quick and easy.

The range of options has increased. As well as the option to download a low

resolution image for a smartphone, parents now have the option to

purchase a high resolution digital download of their child’s image and

family/sibling packages can be ordered online.

An added incentive for our families is that MSP now offers a 10% discount

for all family orders above $90 a family.

Should you have any queries, please don’t hesitate

to contact MSP photography on 08 8391 3951 or

email [email protected]

Children’s University News

LATEST ISSUE OUT NOW!

Following our official launch, our students (Year 5-7) have the opportunity to be involved in an exciting program: ‘Children’s University Australia’ (CUA).

CUA aims to encourage high quality out of school hours activities for children aged between 7 and 14 years, engaging the wider community as learning partners in this process. The most important principles of CUA are that participation is voluntary and activities must take place outside the normal school day during lunch, after school, weekends and holidays.

In partnership with The University of Adelaide, we aim to raise aspirations and develop a love of learning by issuing students enrolled in CUA with a ‘Passport to Learning’ which records their individual learning journey. After 30 hours of learning, the children are rewarded for their participation with certificates at a graduation ceremony to be held at the University of Adelaide.

Participating students have access to activities at school and also in the wider community (Learning Destinations). These activities have been validated by CUA trained staff as good learning experiences. A full list of Learning Destinations can be seen at: www.childrensuniversity.com.au.

CUA members are also able to earn 10 hours from Regular Restricted Activities. These are external organisations of which students are paying members and attend on a regular basis (e.g. sporting clubs, dance studios, swimming centres, etc.) These organisations do not need to be listed on our website to be included in the passport. In order to earn hours, students who participate in these activities must inform their CUA school coordinator who will pass on an appropriate ‘Review’ form. (Please see me if you require a ‘Review’ form for an out of hours activity)

Please note permission notes/money are due tomorrow - the 9th March.
