Week 10 Term 4, 2018 PRESENTATION EVENING PRINCIPAL’S ADDRESS Good Evening Everyone, It is my absolute pleasure to be able to speak to you all, on this night of happiness and celebration. We are here to celebrate the many successes which the students have achieved this year. During 2018 we have witnessed many physical changes at DPS. The refurbishment of our buildings, installation of a new back fence, re- establishment of a dedicated technology lab, and the commencement of the improvement works in the front of the school have all contributed to creating a welcoming environment for all members of the DPS community. Our relationship with the broader community has continued this year with students and staff participating in events including ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day, Christmas activities and projects such as drought relief hamper packing and support of the Denman Children’s Centre. The inclusion of our school in community activities including the Resurgence Project and Smart Arts Include You #2 program, have both resulted in amazing art projects which our school community can be proud of. I have been incredibly impressed with our Year 6 students this year. I know that they have all progressed very much, both educationally and socially during their years at DPS. I am proud of each and every one of you. It is important to keep on learning and continue to develop individual talents while learning to get on with others, problem solve, be self-motivated and inquisitive. We have a number of families with us this evening who have been a part of the school for a very long time now and have come to the end of this chapter in their children’s education. Thank you to all of you for your contributions to the school. The school is certainly better for having you as part of the DPS community. To our continuing families we look forward to your support in 2019. To the P & C President Christine Bailey and members who work tirelessly to raise funds to support teaching and learning, I express my appreciation for your ongoing assistance. Our school values the contributions of all volunteers who make the school such a fabulous place to be. This year the P & C have provided $29, 975 In funding to support the purchase of literacy resources, sensory musical equipment, watering systems, technology for the Stage 3 classroom, an oven for the canteen and financial support for our state sporting representatives Thank you to each and every member of our school community who has contributed time and energy to the fundraising efforts which have provided these funds. To the staff who display drive, passion and determination underpinned by skill, knowledge and empathy, which has seen our core business of Teaching and Learning continue to raise progress and achievement for all students, I say thank you. All DPS staff members are incredibly dedicated and form a hardworking team who continually challenge themselves to provide a learning environment focusing on wellbeing and positive education. Please join me in acknowledging all members of the Denman Public School staff. Thank you for joining with us to celebrate the achievements of 2018, it is such a privilege to be the leader of this great school - Thankyou DENMAN EXAMINER The 2018 Denman Examiner was issued last night. We hope that you enjoy the new look publication filled with a comprehensive account of all sporting, academic and cultural events. Thank you to Mrs Fuiono for her amazing effort to compile the ‘Denman Examiner’ in the new format this year.

CONGRATULATIONS

YEAR 6 FAREWELL Year 5 hosted a lovely evening last Thursday December 13th, for the class of Year 6, 2018. It was wonderful to see former teachers of the class attend and to receive many wishes of support for their exciting journey ahead of high school in 2019. Mrs Whiteman has worked very hard during Term 4 to create flawless dance routines and we were impressed with the involvement of students. ‘The Waves of Bondi’ proved to be tricky for most adults, but thanks to some great coaching from students there were only a few ‘extra’ turns and kicks. It was lovely to see huge family participation for a grand finale. We would like to thank Banje Sellers, Darren Hollingshed, Stephanie Hamilton, Pauline Skeffington, Wendy Stair, Jackye Apps, Julie Fabar, Lee Mills and DPS staff for their assistance setting up the venue. Thank you to Mrs Ballard for organising such a wonderful event for Year 6 to remember. A gallery of photos from the evening is available on the Official school Facebook page and will be uploaded to the school website later this week.

COMMUNITY SERVICE AT DMPS Last Friday December 14th, Mrs Druitt and Mrs Brown accompanied Blade, Reegan, Hayden, Heath and Patrick to the Denman Multi Purpose Service to assist with their Christmas party. Students helped to serve residents and guests a delicious lunch, clean up afterwards and draw the raffle. We would like to extend a huge thank you to Denman MPS Activity Officer Shae Dodd for collaborating with us and enabling students to contribute to the community in 2018, and of

course for the opportunity to join in the fun 😊

CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR On Saturday evening December 15th, students from DPS participated in the Glencore Upper Hunter Christmas Spectacular at Muswellbrook Race Course. Following rehearsals with local children and community members over the past few weeks, students performed a variety of Christmas carols for a huge crowd. Thank you to families for supporting students and enabling them to perform with the Upper Hunter Conservatorium of Music. FAREWELL AND GOOD LUCK We will farewell Miss O’Brien and Mr Morris tomorrow. Miss O’Brien has accepted a teaching position at Scone Public School and Mr Morris will return to Muswellbrook South Public School. We wish them both every success with their new career paths and thank them both for their fantastic contribution to Denman Public School in 2018.

Great job DPS!
