PRINCIPALS REPORT

Curriculum Day On Tuesday the 12th of June. Staff were involved in a Professional Development session on Calmer Classrooms. This provided insight into the human mind and the way trauma impacts different individuals. Cardinia Primary School Staff: A number of staff will be out in the coming weeks doing their Professional Practice Days. Please make any new faces in our school welcome, we have a number of relief teachers coming in and doing an amazing job with the classes they are taking. The teachers have been working hard, completing reports. Interview times are up and ready to go. Around the School: Thank you to Chris Armstrong who pops in to do a number of odd jobs around the school. Keep the last Saturday of the School Holidays free (the 14th of July). We are planning on having a working bee around at school. PARKING Some parents are parking on the nature strip near the Church and up the neighbour’s driveway, including and through their bollards onto the nature strip. As it gets wetter, damage is more likely to happen. Students have also been seen jumping on the fences, breaking branches, hitting trees etc. . Parents and students are reminded to be considerate when parking off the school premises and to make sure we are respecting other’s property and not leaving rubbish around. Remember we are a part of a small community and we need to be respectful. School Council: Tonight there is School Council Meeting. All members of our school community are more than welcome to attend these meetings. If you would like to be a member of this decision making body of the school please don’t hesitate to contact either Cara Massa (School Council President) or Trudie Esler. Principals’ Meeting – Melbourne: On Thursday 14th and Friday 15th June, Trudie Esler and Jessica Dart will be attending a compulsory meeting of all Principals and Vice Principals in our Region in Melbourne. This meeting will be about Leading Excellence in Teaching and Learning. While Jess and I are away attending this synopsis, Kirrilee Cruse, Michelle Henson and Jodie Mattingley will be the teachers in charge. Any issues or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact them.

Mrs Trudie Esler (Acting Principal)

ABSENCES

Verbal messages to the teacher or office are NO LONGER acceptable.

Notification MUST BE IN WRITING.

Please also ensure that if students are late to school, they are signed in at the office.

BIRTH CERTIFICATE & IMMUNISATION CERTIFICATE There are still a number of families that have not provided the Office with either their child/ren’s Birth Certificate and/or Immunisation Certificate. To obtain your child’s Immunisation Certificate, you can visit the website below. You simply enter your

Medicare card number and your child’s name. It takes a week to come to your home address. If you need any help, please see Mrs Friend in the Office. We would appreciate it if these could be returned to the office as soon as possible to ensure our student records are kept up to date. It is a Government requirement that these are

provided for every student. https://www1.medicareaustralia.gov.au/ssl/acircirgcert http://www.birthsdeathsmarriage.com/sign-up.php

Heating Food

We would like to remind parents that we are unable to preheat up cooked meals for students. We do not have the fridge space to store lunches or the time to heat them up in the 10 minutes of eat time. We will put hot water onto noodles because this can be done prior to eating time.

TISSUE BOXES

As winter has approached and we would like ask our school families to donate 2 boxes of tissues for students to use in their classrooms. This helps us immeasurably by keeping our school costs down each year. If you haven’t already donated, could each family please supply 2 boxes of tissues (can be any brand) and hand them into the office.

Thank you.

The Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge is now open and Cardinia

Primary School is excited to be participating. The Challenge is open to all Victorian children

from birth to 16 years, in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It

is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by

September 7th.

Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their

parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the

Victorian Premier. For more information about the Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge and

to view the booklists, visit: www.education.vic.gov.au/prc

CHAPLAIN ’S CORNER

Chaplain's Corner

It was really exciting to have the Resilience Project come to our school last week. Teachers have already

been putting what we have learnt into practice in their classrooms.

For those parents who missed the seminar this is a very brief summary which I may flesh out in the com-

ing weeks.

*Those with resilience know that failures are learning opportunities that can lead to personal growth.

(as I have written about over the last few weeks)

*Those with resilience practice GEM.

(Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness)

*Gratitude is being grateful, even for little things in our lives,

like the fresh fruit I had at lunchtime today.

*Empathy is understanding how others feel and living to bring happiness into their lives by doing

random acts of kindness,

like smiling at someone as you walk by.

*Mindfulness is putting yourself in the present and not worrying about the past or the future. There

is a variety of things that can help relax the brain to be in the present like listening to calming music or going for a

walk.

If you have any questions about the Resilience Project and ways you can put GEM into practice and support what

your children are learning please feel free to talk to Jodie Mattingley or myself.

I hope you have a great week getting into GEM!

For families who receive a Centrelink Payment

Our School would like to introduce you an opportunity to use Centrepay as a free direct

bill-paying service offered to customers receiving Centrelink payments.

What is Centrepay?

Centrepay is a free direct bill-paying service offered to customers receiving Centrelink

payments. Through Centrepay you can choose to pay school fees, excursions, camps, etc

by having a regular amount deducted from your payments and transferred electronically

to Cardinia Primary School.

Will it cost you anything?

There is no charge for this service.

Is there a minimum payment amount?

Yes, the minimum payment amount for deductions for Cardinia Primary School is $10 per fortnight.

How do you apply for Centrepay?

By completing the Centrepay deduction form from the school office or Centrelink.

What information do you need to provide when applying for Centrepay?

You will need:

·your Customer Reference Number (CRN)

·the amount you want deducted from your payments each fortnight

·the payments from which you want the deductions to be paid

·the payday that you want the deduction to start.

Centrelink will send you a letter confirming the details of your deductions. Centrelink will pay your

deductions to Cardinia Primary School on the same day you receive your Centrelink payments.

Can you change your Centrepay deductions?

Yes, you can change, suspend or cancel your deductions at any time online at humanservices.gov.au/

onlineservices, by calling Centrelink or completing a Centrepay deduction form at a Centrelink Service

Centre. Centrelink will send you a letter and advise Cardinia Primary School of your changes,

suspensions or cancellation.

What changes can you make to your Centrepay deductions?

You can make the following changes to your deductions:

·suspend your deduction amount temporarily for a maximum period of 13 weeks

·request a future end date when deductions will automatically cease

·nominate or change a target amount so deductions will automatically stop when that target amount

has been reached

·change the deduction amount you are paying to a new amount or change the amount temporarily

·cancel your deduction at any time.

What happens if there is a change to your payments?

You may not always be able to deduct the full amount requested if your Centrelink payment:

·is reduced because of income or earnings

·has been reduced or suspended because of a non-payment period, or

·is reduced because other deductions have been made, such as overpayments - leaving you with an

insufficient amount left for your Centrepay deduction.

If this happens you will need to contact the office on 5998 8323 and make other arrangements.
