A total of 93 horses entered Monday for Saturday’s $3.6 million Sunshine Millions VII for horses bred in California and Florida, to be held at Santa Anita and Gulfstream Park. The total entries are up from 86 taken last year. Of the 93, 34 are Cal-breds, with 27 of them entered for the four races at Santa Anita and only seven ship- ping in for the four races at Gulfstream Park. Top California stallion Unusual Heat is turning the Sunshine Millions into his per- sonal showcase. Seven of the 34 Cal-breds, and three of the seven running in Florida, were sired by Unusual Heat. The first Sunshine Millions race scheduled is the $250,000 Dash at Gulfstream Park with a post time of 1:07 p.m. PT. Gulfstream Park will run three Sunshine Millions races before Santa Anita runs its first one, the $500,000 Sunshine Millions Turf, at 2:15 p.m. PT as the sixth race on the card. Chattahoochee War Stands at Hubbard’sAmerman Racing and Sue Hubbard and Associates announce

that the talented Keeneland course record holder and Grade IIIwinner, Chattahoochee War, will stand his first season at SueHubbard and Associates Thoroughbreds, located on the centralcoast of California. He will stand with no stud fee to approvedmares for the first season.

Chattahoochee War is by the Breeders’ Cup Mile winning sonof Danzig, War Chant, and out of the talented graded stakes mareBuffalo Berry (Ire), who distinguished herself as a top racehorse byfinishing third to European Champion Fasliyev in the Group IHeinz 57 Phoenix Stakes.

She then came to the United States and won the Grade IIIReeve Schley Jr. Stakes. Buffalo Berry is the dam of six foals, threeto race who are all winners.

Chattahoochee War ran from age two to six, establishing acourse record for about one mile at Keeneland in 1:35.28 at agethree in the Grade III Central Bank Transylvania Stakes. Thatyear he also won the Hill Rise Stakes at Santa Anita, placed sec-ond to Turf Champion English Channel in the Grade III VirginiaDerby and Grade III Kent Breeders’ Cup in Delaware and ran thirdin the Grade I Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park. He came backat age five to also run third in the Harry F. Brubaker Handicap atDel Mar. He retired with four wins, five seconds and two thirds infifteen lifetime starts, earning $553,416.

Roaring Red second and Highland Gold finishing third in a field of five. El Dorado Shooter was trained by Clifford Delima and riddenby Kevin Radke. He ran the six furlongs in a track-record 1:07 2/5 and won by 1 1/2 lengths at odds of 7-2. El Dorado Shooter was thelast of seven foals out of the Lypheor mare Maui Lyphear J., who also produced stakes winner Maui Lypheor Gold and the stakes-placedLypheor Castle. The Montclair was El Dorado Shooter’s sixth win in nine starts. The 2009 Barretts January Mixed Sale will take on addedsignificance when it is conducted in Pomona on Monday, Jan. 26.The annual event, which is already established as California’s firstmajor Thoroughbred auction on the calendar, will be the onlyopportunity over the next 12 months for the state’s owners andtrainers to purchase racing and breeding prospects in a localmixed sale format—a direct result of the recent announcementfrom Barretts Equine Limited that the company’s traditionalOctober Mixed Sale will be eliminated for 2009.

Whittled down from its two-day edition in 2008, which fea-tured 565 entries, to a single session accompanied by a 314-horsecatalog for this year’s renewal, the upcoming January sale is com-prised of 109 broodmares, 100 yearlings, 68 two-yearolds, 32 hors-es of racing age and five stallions. Bidding begins at 11 a.m. in theHinds Pavilion on the grounds of Fairplex Park.
