an employee Apple ID, which created issues for enterprise users. •  Not everyone had an Apple ID. •  IT had to generate Apple IDs for employees –

caused confusion for which Apple ID to use (personal or company issued).

•  iOS 9 Benefits: o  Device-based licensing.

•  IT can assign / distribute apps to devices vs. users. •  No Apple ID is required or interaction from

employees for installing an app. •  Employees cannot manage these apps. •  Apps are acquired through Apple’s Volume

Purchase Program (VPP) o  User-based licensing.

•  Distribute user app license for multiple devices.

Device-based licensing allows IT to assign apps to devices instead of users.

then re-install the same app via an EMM enterprise app store.

•  iOS 9 Benefits: o  Employee installed apps can be converted to

Apple Configure 2 without the App Store.

o  Silently “push” apps via EMM via Send Message on supervised devices, or assign apps to the device for end users to install.

IT can distribute apps to managed devices without enabling the App Store.



PER-APP VPN ENHANCEMENTS •  The challenge before iOS 9: o  Per-app VPN connection was determined by

underlying pre-established network settings.

•  iOS 9 Benefits: o  UDP Traffic

•  Allows employees to view streaming audio or video without pre-configuring their device.

o  Per-app VPN Connection •  Network or EMM Admin can define network routes

and domain name server settings for managed apps to use when making their connection.

Gives IT more control over network traffic and enables Support of streaming technologies.



PROTECT CORPORATE DATA FROM AIRDROP •  The challenges prior to iOS 9: o  IT Admins didn’t have control being able to

restrict employees from using AirDrop to transfer data between devices.

•  iOS 9 Benefits: o  AirDrop can be treated as an “unmanaged”

destination preventing employees from transferring corporate data from managed devices. •  Example: email cannot share content or files

(attachments) through AirDrop.

IT can prevent corporate data from being passed to other devices using AirDrop.
