(Salmon and Dill Fishcakes were on the menu last week as Year 6 enjoyed more cooking and were able to eat the delicious results of their efforts. Below right, Year 5 pupils made couscous last week, again, a delicious food.) (More Success for LJS Did you read the Huddersfield Examiner last week? There they shared the news about The Trinity Mirror ranking system which aims to give parents an idea of which schools will help their child prosper, no matter what their background. It includes factors such as whether all pupils are making progress (not just those expected to get top grades), attendance, ratio of teachers to pupils and whether pupils do better than expected. It is an analysis of masses of local government data comparing everything from pupils' attainment and the teaching quality to teacher to pupil ratio and attendance. Top of the class inCalderdalewas Rastricks Longroyde Junior School, with an overall rating of just under 72 points. Ellands Old Earth Primary school was runner up, scoring just over half a point lower, with Copley Primary in third place.A BIG thank you to everyone who helps to deliver fabulous results for the children at Longroyde.) (Snow Days So we have had our first snow day of the academic year? A big thank you to everyone who attended, and well done. Attendance in the morning was excellent, when other schools chose to close we suffered as some parents took their children from our school. This was despite the fact that we were remaining open. In Canada, school buses stop running at -27 and schools are only allowed to close at -50. In Britain we grind to a halt with some slush at 0. I would like to pick out for a special mention, the staff who came an awfully long way in some cases (the other side of Bradford or Holmfirth) and the girl in Year 6 who walked with her mum from Cowcliffe when the car got stuck. Im pleased to say that the British spirit of resilience and determination can still be found amongst some in our community.) (Messages from the Office)
