A Post-Doctoral Fellow Position is available in the areas of polymer and polymer nanocomposite in the Department of Chemistry at Virginia Tech. The Post- Doctoral position is full time for an initial appointment of 12 months. The position is renewable based on research performance, continued funding, and the need for the services. Responsibilities: This position is expected to conduct research in the area of polymer and polymer nanocomposites. Candidates with a strong expertise in polymers, plasmonic nanoparticles, and carbon materials (graphene, carbon nanotubes) are strongly encouraged to apply. Additional expertise in thin films, membranes, mechanical tests, and device fabrication are appreciated. The candidate is expected to perform both fundamental and applied scholarly research works in the related field; to collect experimental data and analyze data; to prepare reports for funding agency, and manuscript for publications; to present research results at scientific conference; and to train graduate students as needed. Qualifications: Ph.D. Degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or related fields with strong nanomaterials background. Preferred research experience in one or more of the following: polymer synthesis, polymer thin film processing, polymer nanocomposites, mechanical property analysis, and electrochemistry analysis. Preferred instruments skills include DMA, TGA, DSC, GPC, AFM, SEM, TEM, SAXS, BET, etc. It is necessary to have good technical communication skills and some publication history of scholarly papers is desired.
