Are all these sheer coincidences???

Is Modijee, Prime Minister of India or Business Development Manager for Adani and Ambani???

Have all the Corporates got back their Return on Investment after sponsoring Modijee's election campaigns???

Have we ever heard of Modijee bringing back anything from these foreign trips for Farmers and Middle Class people??? On the contrary we are paying more and more Taxes, suffering regular disruptions and standing in endless Bank Queues

Can we expect media houses to cover this news because, now that huge deals have been signed, they can be rest assured of their hefty pay packets for another decade?

[10:28 AM, 7/16/2017]Sudhakar Patil:Telecom subscriber base in India crosses 1.2 billion mark

The growth was led by 6.23 million net subscriber additions in the mobile services segment.

The telecom subscriber base crossed 1.2 billion mark in May, according to sectoral regulator Trai.

While the growth was led by 6.23 million net subscriber additions in the mobile services segment, it was marginally impacted by decline of 0.14 million landline subscribers.

"The number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 1,198.89 million at the end of April 2017 to 1,204.98 million at the end of May 2017, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.51 per cent," the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India said in a report today.

Total wireless subscribers increased by 0.53 per cent to 1,180.82 million at the end of May from 1,174.60 million at the end of April.

Reliance Jio continued to lead the growth momentum with net addition of 4.7 million new customers accounting for about 75 per cent of overall net subscriber addition in the mobile services segment.

Jio was followed by Bharti Airtel which added 2.09 million new customers, state-run BSNL (1.35 million), Vodafone (1.13 million) and Idea Cellular (0.19 million).

Aircel and Reliance Communications added 0.17 million net subscribers each.

Loss of subscriber by Tata Teleservices (2.1 million), Telenor (1.32 million), Sistema Shyam (0.25 million) and MTNL (2,136) mitigated growth in the mobile services segment.

Out of the total wireless subscribers (1,180.82 million), 1,019.55 million wireless subscribers were found active in May.

The wireline or landline subscribers base declined to 24.16 million at the end of May, from 24.30 million at the end of April.

There were marginal net additions in landline connections by private players but it failed to arrest loss in wireline subscriber base due to huge decline in subscriber base of market leader BSNL.

BSNL lost 0.13 million landline customers despite multiple offers to push its wireline business. MTNL lost 9,883 fixed line customers, RCom - 2,854 and Tata Teleservices - 2,670 customers.

The broadband subscriber base increased by 2.6 per cent on monthly basis to 291.61 million at the end of May from 284.23 Million at the end of April.

"Top five service providers constituted 88.23 per cent market share of the total broadband subscribers at the end of May 2017. These service providers were Reliance Jio Infocom Ltd (117.34 million), Bharti Airtel (53.30 million), Vodafone (40.43 million), Idea Cellular (24.63 million) and BSNL (21.59 million)," the report said.

The fixed line broadband services declined by 0.14 per cent on monthly basis to 18.23 million at the end of May from 18.25 million at the end of April.

The top five wired broadband service providers in May were BSNL (9.80 million), Bharti Airtel (2.09 million), Atria Convergence Technologies (1.20 million), MTNL (0.99 million) and YOU Broadband (0.64 million), the report said.

During the month of May, a total of 5.37 million requests were received for mobile number portability (MNP).

[9:14 AM, 7/21/2017]Sudhakar Patil:Are you open to disinvestment or induction of a strategic player in BSNL?

It is governments prerogative to decide on this. But, looking at BSNL financially, we are in a comfortable position. Our debt is around Rs 3,200 crore on a topline of Rs 30,000 crore, the least in the industry. If you look at MTNL, it has a debt of Rs 20,000 crore on a small topline of Rs 3,000 crore. We are able to meet our necessary expenditure on operation and maintenance, employee costs and others and not dependent on outside funding. Just that when depreciation of assets is booked, we get negative profit, otherwise we are Ebitda (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) positive and our topline is growing. We will be back to profits by FY18-19.

How do you plan to expand your services in mobile space?

We have completed phase 8 expansion plan where we have replaced old base transceiver stations (BTS). We plan to launch 4G mobile services in select circles on 2500 megahertz (MHz) where we are looking for a partner on a revenue-sharing basis and setting up of WiFi hotspots across India already installed over 3,000 and another 25,000 would be set up in rural exchanges from USOF (universal service obligation fund). We have issued an expression of interest for rolling out 4G services on a revenue-sharing basis and will provide only bandwidth to technology service provider who will manage and operate 4G services. We have also written to the government asking for 700 MHz spectrum through equity route.

[11:04 PM, 7/22/2017]Sudhakar Patil:BSNL to Offer Inflight Connectivity

State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is set to offer inflight connectivity in about years time, having received the nod from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), according to a report in ET. The service will be offered in partnership with International Mobile Satellite Organization (Inmarsat), which recently partnered with the telco to officially open a new Indian GSPS Gateway, which will enable Indian government and private sector customers to access highly reliable satellite phone (satphone) services via Inmarsats 4th generation constellation.

BSNL is the sole licensee to provide satellite services and has also already applied for the International Maritime Organisation licence. The report added that Inmarsat has already installed their equipment on BSNL premises after being tested for law enforcement.

The inflight connectivity will be enabled through a Wi-Fi router and will be facilitated through antennas linked to the nearest satellite. BSNLs chairman Anupam Shrivastava informed the publication that the telco would open satellite phone services to private companies and persons, as well as offer Internet facility on flights and ships.

The official said that the bandwidth would be provided as per the tariff rolled out after necessary regulatory approvals.

Tata Communications (TCL) has been offering limited satellite-based phone services in India, but it will stop offering the service. BSNL is now the only player to have the licence to provide satellite phone services in India. The ongoing transition of network and subscribers from Tata Communications to the new network will be completed by August, Shrivastava told the publication.

Under the licence, BSNLs new GSPS gateway, located in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, will enable the telco and Inmarsat to meet the most demanding requirements of smartphone users throughout the country. BSNL has reportedly asked existing Inmarsat satellite phone users to migrate to the new network by July 31.
