Guided Reading

This week we are looking at poetry. Read the poem aloud and think about your volume and expression (Volume is how loud or soft your voice is, and expression is how you can use your voice to show emotions).

Re read the poem and answer the following questions:

1) Which months bring darker nights? and

2) What colour is the sky?

3) Why do you think that ‘the insects now seem far and few’?

4) Predict what you think may happen now Autumn has begun.

SPAG

This week in our SPaG we are focussing on punctuating dialogue, look at the following PowerPoint slides to help with understand how to use punctuation correctly and then have a go at the activities.

Can you find the mistakes and correct them?

Literacy

Using your knowledge from the SPaG lesson about punctuating dialogue, write some dialogue between the Hare and the Tortoise at the end of the fable.

Think about what you have written so far in your Meadows Write for your own version of ‘The Hare and the Tortoise’. Use the lines below to finish writing your fable, think about resolving the problem, the end of the race and the moral of the story! Can you include dialogue at the end of your story?

Science

This week we are continuing to focus on our topic ‘Animals including Humans’ and we are looking at muscles in the human body and how they are important with helping our skeletons move. Look at the following PowerPoint slides and have a go at the investigation task, you will need some space to run on the spot, and a book to read!

Extension task: Can you create a model of an arm muscle to help you explain how muscles work in pairs?

Making Muscles

You will need:

elastic bands

strips of thick, strong cardboard

split pin

stapler & scissors

1. Cut two equal lengths of card from thick strong card.

2. Place one strip of card on top of the other.

3. Push a split pin through both pieces of card. This must be no less than 5cm in from the edge.

4. Cut 4 elastic bands to length.

Two will be short (red) and two will be need to be longer (green).

5. Staple the elastic bands in place. The two shorter ones will attach on the outside of the arm and the 2 longer bands will attach on the inside of the arm. Attach them all so they are tight but not pulling.

Foundation

This week in our History lessons we are looking at what you already know about our local area and how it has changed over time. Complete the boxes with what you already know!

Look at the following maps of Ketley showing how our local area has changed over time. Write some sentences to show what you can see! Think about what is different, and is anything still the same?

RE

In RE we are continuing to learn more about the Muslim faith. Look at the slides from the PowerPoint and then complete the tasks.

Task one: Label important features of a mosque:

Task two: Make a list of what you may find in a mosque, and some rules to follow when you enter.

Task three: Look at these photos of mosques in Telford. Write down what you notice about the buildings.
