INTELLIGENCE text, graphics, tests, and some fun exercises to help your comprehension of this important subject, all leading to an enhanced ability to understanding and managing your emotions and maximizing your ability to interact with fellow workers and clients.

EMOTIONAL SELF-AWARENESS

Emotional Self-Awareness is the ability to recognize and understand one's feelings. It also the ability to differentiate between them, to know what one is feeling and why, and to know what caused those feelings. All successful career persons have these skills which are effectively taught in this course.

EMPATHY Empathy is the ability to be aware of, to understand, and to appreciate the feelings of others. It is "tuning in" (being sensitive) to what, how, and why people feel the way they do. Being empathetic means being able to "emotionally read" other people. Skills taught in this course are essential to career success.

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIP

Interpersonal relationship involves the ability to establish and maintain mutually satisfying relationships that are characterized by emotional closeness, intimacy, and by giving and receiving affection. These skills are professionally developed in this course.

PROBLEM SOLVING Problem solving is the ability to identify and define problems as well as to generate and implement potentially effective solutions. Problem solving skills taught include the ability to go through a specific process of (1) sensing a problem, (2) defining and formulating the problem, (3) generating as many solutions as possible, and (4) making a decision to implement one of the solutions. Skills are also taught to confront problems, rather than avoiding them.

STRESS TOLERANCE Stress tolerance is the ability to withstand adverse events, stressful situations, and strong emotions without "falling apart" by actively and positively coping with stress. It is the ability to weather difficult situations without getting too overwhelmed. Skills taught in this course, so necessary in our society, are among the most popular of the eight Career Enhancement courses.

ASSERTIVENESS Assertiveness is the ability to express feelings, beliefs, and thoughts and to defend one's rights in a nondestructive manner. Assertive people are not overly controlled or shy -- they are able to outwardly express their feelings (often discretely), without being aggressive or abusive. Assertiveness skills are essential to a successful career.

FLEXIBILITY Flexibility is one of three domains that make up the Adaptability component of the Bar-On model of emotional intelligence. Adaptability comprises a combination of reality testing, flexibility, and problem solving. One's general level of adaptability reveals how successfully one is able to cope with environmental demands by effectively sizing up and flexibly dealing with problematic situations. Being able to efficiently cope with organizational change requires adaptability. High levels of adaptability identify people who are realistic and effective in understanding problems, flexible, and competent at arriving at adequate solutions, and easily find good ways of dealing with everyday difficulties.

IMPULSE CONTROL Impulse control is the ability to regulate one's emotions and to resist or delay an impulse, drive, or temptation to act. It entails a capacity for accepting one's aggressive impulses, being composed, and controlling aggression, hostility, and irresponsible behavior. These essential skills are clearly presented in this course.

OPTIMISM Optimism is the ability to look at the brighter side of life and to maintain a positive attitude, even in the face of adversity. Optimism assumes a measure of hope in one's approach to life. It is a positive approach to daily living.

SELF-REGARD Are you getting what you want out of life? Are you happy with yourself, with what you are doing and who you are in general? Are you self-assured, self-confident, and feel prepared to take on life's challenges? If not, you are most likely experiencing some difficulty with self-regard.

GUIDE TO UNDERSTANDING YOUR EQ-i RESULTS

Now, EQ University includes our new "Guide to Understanding Your EQ-i Results" at no additional charge when you register to take the assessment. This step-by-step guide will help you make sense of the Development Report that is included with each assessment.

HAPPINESS Happiness is the ability to enjoy oneself and others, to feel satisfied with one's life, and to have fun. Happiness combines self-satisfaction and general contentment with the ability to enjoy life. This component of emotional, personal, and social intelligence involves the ability to enjoy various aspects of one's life and life in general. Happy people often feel good and at ease both at home and at work, and they are able to let their hair down and enjoy opportunities for having fun. Happiness is also associated with a general feeling of cheerfulness and enthusiasm.

INDEPENDENCE Did you know that the ability to be decisive is dependent upon a strong sense of independence, and decisiveness is a very important at work and in our personal lives? People who are independent may ask for and consider the advice of others, but tend to be self-reliant and have a sense of confidence and inner strength that helps them in what they attempt to do, especially when doing so is against popular opinion.

If you would like to see things realistically and be able to efficiently cope with change, this course is a must for you.

SELF-ACTUALIZATION

Did you know that self-actualization is important to realize our potential and have a more meaningful, rich, and full life? Self-actualization is a critical emotional intelligence skill because it serves as a road map of sorts for success in life. This course is designed to help you become more self-actualized and start you on your way to unlocking your true potential in life.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Do you get along well with others, particularly at work? Are you sensitive to the needs of others, do things for and with others, accept others, and use your talents for the collective good? If not, you are most likely experiencing some difficulty with social responsibility and should take this course.
