The Academic Health Science Network for the North East and North Cumbria, North of England Commissioning Support Unit and Newcastle University are sponsoring a series of events focused on sharing and developing good practice, research and evidence within the care home sector. Care Home Research: Current state and future priorities Tuesday 18 th June 2019 - 10.00– 16.00 (registration from 9.45) Newcastle University - King’s Hall, Armstrong Building This event will bring together people who do, use, support or benefit from research in care homes. Newcastle University has a growing programme of care home related research. This will be showcased in short, easy to understand presentations, and invited guests will share their experiences of collaborative approaches to research in care homes. Attendees will be asked to work together to identify their future local and national priorities for care home research. This is an exciting opportunity for care home managers, staff and residents, health and social care professionals, commissioners and researchers to hear about the current care home research agenda and to help shape the future direction of research in this setting. Professor Karen Spilsbury, Professor of Nursing Research, University of Leeds

Mr Peter Hodkinson, Managing Director, Westward CareKaren is a leading expert on care home workforce issues, and Academic Director for NICHE-Leeds (Nurturing Innovation in Care Home Excellence in Leeds). Peter is the founder member of Westward Care, Care Home Partner of NICHE-Leeds, Chair of Leeds Care Association and a Fellow at Skills for Care. They will be talking about their innovative partnership project between Leeds Care Association and the University of Leeds, which aims to enhance and promote quality of care for older people living in nursing homes in Leeds.

Ms Alison Redhead, Manager, Minster Grange care home, York

Mr Jim Ainslie, VOICE: Patient and Public InvolvementAlison and Jim will share their experiences of involvement in care home research.

Professor Claire GoodmanProfessor of Health Services Research, University of HertfordshireClaire has a district nursing background and works in the Centre for Research in Public Health and Community Care (CRIPACC), at the University of Hertfordshire. Her research focuses on the oldest old and how primary health care works with social care and long term care providers to support this population. She will be discussing a new project to develop a minimum dataset for care homes.
