· Break up text, no more than a paragraph of text should be together at a time (think- would you read this walking up to it for the first time) see example to the side

· Would a timeline be relevant? (you can use other’s words and re-format, just cite below)

· Are you going over words? (500 your words), you can think about-

· Using captions for pictures already made (put in quotes)

· Citing other people’s words for the background information

· Distinguish or indicate somehow your words and other people

· Exs- Different font or different color background paper or put other people’s words in quotes

Content- images

· Variety of pictures (not pixilated) color if possible, on photo paper if possible

· Can you include? graphs, political cartoons, quotes, stats, primary sources, flag, map…etc

· No ‘scrapbook’ or ‘word art’ ‘emoji’ ‘cartoon’ type images, make is less professional

· COVER the entire project, no blank spaces anywhere. Could be used for content.

· MUST HAVE: Captions (explanation of picture- detailed sentence, DATE) and citations-where you got it from, NOT THE URL- ex) Source- National Archives (usually, in a smaller font)

Paperwork

· Paperwork will be placed in front of the board

· Staple: Title page, process paper, combined sources (if you are in a group, you must ‘merge’ in Noodletools)

· Do NOT glue Noodletools research or process paper to the board

· Put word count on ‘Student Composed Words’ on your title page

Website:

Titles

· Title (tie to theme, creative but professional)

· What categories/sub categories are you using to organize your information?

· These will be different pages on your website (will have around 6-8 different pages)

· There will be subcategories within each page to tell the eye where to look

· MUST HAVE- plain title page with Title, name, division, word count(s) on home page- see image below

· MUST HAVE- resources page with Process Paper and Annotated List of Works

Consulted on it (as a PDF or embedded, not WORD)

· SUGGESTED: Conclusion page with wrap up analysis on importance in history as a whole (see thesis paper)

· MUST go to nhd.com go to WebCentral

· If website is created on another website platform, you will have to redo the project on NHD WebCentral

FONT and STYLE

· Less than 3 colors used (no flashy colors, looks professional)

· Either a similar color palette or relevant color content

· Ex- Stonewall could use rainbow colors

· Font- readable, professional, between 12 and 14 font, subtitles and titles are larger

· Does not have to be TNR font, but choose a font that is professional looking

Technology Content

· MUST HAVE interactivity- videos, audio, quotes as well as many pictures

· MUST HAVE- buttons or arrows guiding from one page to another (this is different than the tabs at the top of the page)

· Please see me EARLY for videos- provide a flash drive with a note attached with name/topic, I have access to some videos

· IF you use YouTube, it must be DOWNLOADED (and NOT directly linked to the YouTube Website)

· Free YouTube downloader- TubeChop.com

· MAXIMUM total for video/audio- 4 minutes long

· Use many small clips, not one large 4 minute clip

· Make sure clips tie to the theme

· Have a caption for video or audio clip as well as a citiation

· NO LINKS to external content (things outside your website) unless on bibliography page citing sources

· Must be less than 100 mbs (you can see this when you log into web platform)

Titles

Formatting

· MUST be between 8-10 minutes long (over 10 minutes if disqualified)

· MUST be saved to a DVD (I can help with this if you don’t have DVD burner, just ask me at least a week before due date)

· Test your DVD on multiple devices to ensure that it works!!

· Write on DVD- Title, name(s), division

· Computer programs to use- Windows Movie Maker, PhotoStory, imovie or other professional movie making programs (you may NOT use PowerPoint or Presi)

· Don’t let transitions/ animations be distracting from professionalism

· Set up must take no longer than 5 minutes

· EVERYTHING must be student ran/edited

· Even non students involved in the project can’t hold the camera if there is an interview

Script

· Need a written script with written voice over that will be used **let me look at this before you get started

· Should be organized- other chronologically or thematically (ex- breaking barrier, effects, etc)

· Don’t include too much background, 85% of video ties to Breaking Barriers

Things to include

· About a picture every 4 seconds

· Voice over should sync with images

· Can you include: graphs, political cartoons, quotes, stats, primary sources, flag, map…etc

· More variety the better

· Images should not be pixilated

· Can you include videos? (better without sound and YOUR voiceover analysis)

· Short clips, less than 20 seconds each

· MUST include credits with everything used (save a list of urls as you start working on it)

· Can scroll through very fast

· Music- instrumental, not distracting- professional, tie to topic, change up every 30 seconds (cite at end)

Historical Paper

Titles

· Title (tie to theme, creative but professional)

· MLA

· MUST include footnotes

· Citations of where you received the information (especially quotes and excerpts)

· Also should include about a footnote a paragraph of where you received information

· Create footnote- (in Word- References, Insert Citation)

· At superscript number at bottom of page- cut and paste from bibliography (minus annotation)

· Entire thing is double spaced

· In same font as bibliography (usually 12 TNR)

· 1” margins all around paper (go to page layout in Word)

· GRAMMAR!!

· 1,500-2,500 words (doesn’t include footnotes or bibliography)

· Should be organized- other chronologically or thematically (ex- leadership info, legacy info)

· 85% of paper should be tied to theme (Leadership and Legacy) not too much background information

· Can include quotes, experts

· Can NOT include pictures/graphs/any images

Performance
