Calligraphy Workshop Instructor: Nori Shirasu Appropriate age level: 3rd th grade through high school Students learn the basics of calligraphy and the art of Chinese writing. Students learn about the significance of pagodas in Asian culture and the art concept of perspective in drawing. They will create an Asian Pagoda.

Animals of Asia WorkshopInstructor: Peter Tigler Appropriate age level: 3rd grade through 5th grade and Special Education

Students learn to draw both mythical and real animals inspired by the museum’s art collection. They will create their own natural or supernatural animal and include Asian symbols and letters in their artwork.

Folktale WorkshopInstructor: Felicia Taylor EAppropriate age level: 3rd to 4th grade

Students take an imaginary journey to Japan through storytelling and interactive performance games. Students will work together to bring to life a popular Asian folktale.

Haiku Workshop:Instructor: Felicia Taylor EAppropriate age level: 4th grade through high school

Students learn about the traditional form of Japanese Haiku poetry. Each participant will write an original Haiku poem and create a book decorated with symbolic Japanese stenciled art designs.

Fan Workshop:Instructor: Felicia Taylor EAppropriate age level: 3rd grade through 6th grade

Students learn about the historical uses of Fans as they participate in fan battle signals, secret communications and more. They will design and create individual paddle fans.

Dragon WorkshopInstructor: Idelle SteinbergAppropriate age level: 3rd grade through high school

Students learn about the role of dragons in Asian culture. They will use water color to create their own dragon artwork.
