Transfer current website to an enhanced web portal based on social engine network platform. The pur-pose of this site is to create a system where Pharmacies/merchants will upload their products (drugs) feeds. Those product feeds will be normalized in the database and an individual user will be able to search for the drug and subsequently will be redirected to the respective website. Users can also register with the portal and enjoy some other benefits and rewards.

The portal will generate revenue through Pay-Per-Click engine. Every time a user click on the product feeds, the portal will charge certain amount to the Pharmacies/Merchants. Other than that we would provide space for advertisement throughout the portal to generate revenue. Admin will be able to manage the ads through CMS.

The portal will also generate revenue through the social engine community by charging members for premium content. There will be 2 membership types one silver (free membership) and the other a gold membership (which is paid).

Another revenue stream will be through our Healthcare100 as a paid Health & Medical blog directory.

ChallengesDeveloping a fully comprehensive directory portal offering all the benefits of a listing website along with features such as post listing, search, video testimonials, blog etc.

The implementation of a highly flexible & robust database that smoothly handles large customer base and listings. Providing a robust framework for handling extensive amounts of data. Sustaining good load balance for a feature-heavy website that is available 24/7 and accessed by thousands of users simultane-ously.

Incorporating web usability principles while developing numerous features designed for enhancing the users' experience.

Ensuring user privacy and safeguarding their content.


ArchitectureThe design approach was built around PHP and MySQL Server due to the nature of the website. Mod-ules like User Profiles, Search, Listing Management and Chat were developed in PHP such that they can be executed directly from the UI layer.

In order to most effectively access the database in an object-oriented context, an interface translating the object logic to the relational logic was used to communicate with the relational databases in an object-oriented manner. An intermediary abstraction layer was created for accessing data from the database. Stored procedures were used only for complex retrieval of data from multiple tables and were entirely avoided with conditional syntax to ensure smooth performance of the website.

The UI layer was kept free of any business logic with images, applications and data being called from their respective servers. Sub-domains were used for the different areas of the website to guarantee scalability.
