Why do we have seasons?

The Earth is tilted as it makes its yearly journey around the sun.

The Earth’s axis is titled 23.5 degrees. This means that the Earth is always “pointed” to one side as it goes around the sun. As the Earth moves around the sun it is half in light and half in dark. The varying amounts of sunlight around the Earth during the year create the seasons.

The tilt of the Earth means it leans towards the sun (summer) and 6 months later leans away (winter).

The SeasonsSpring is March to May in England and the average temperature is 8 degrees.

Summer is June to August and temperatures can reach around 25 degrees.

Autumn is September to November and the average temperature is 12 degrees.

Winter is December to January and the average temperature is 6 degrees.

The length of daylight has a significant variation between summer and winter in the British Isles. Is this the same for all countries around the world?
