Alder Class Home Learning Pack – Summer 2, Week 6 ENGLISH 6 th – 10 th JULY This week’s learning is based around writing a non- chronological report on elephants. This will be partly through the Oak National Academy videos but can also be done with the sheets attached without a computer. As well as the usual English learning this week, we will also be writing a letter to our new teacher. You do not yet know who this will be so you can address the letter to ‘Dear mystery teacher’. It would be ideal if you could write this on a piece of lined paper but have included an example below and a template on the next page to give you ideas. If you are in school, you will write this letter with me. If you are not in school, please write this letter and email it to the school by Friday 10 th July. The email is: [email protected] Dear mystery teacher, I am excited to move into Year 3 next year. I have heard great things about being in year 3! I know it will be fun so I can’t wait have to join Year 3. I thought you might like to know a bit about me. I am a hard-working child who you should look forward to having in your class. I particularly enjoy history but I’m not so keen on ball games. My best friend/best friends in Alder Class are James and Kate and I work well with Ben. I might get distracted if I work with Amir but I don’t get distracted when I work with Jara. The best thing about me is my great listening skills and I’m great at following instructions first time. If I could change one thing about me it would be to be able to get along with everyone. When I grow up, I hope to be a teacher.

Dear mystery teacher,I am excited to move into Year 3 next year. I have heard great things about being in year 3! I know it will be fun so I can’t wait have to join Year 3.I thought you might like to know a bit about me.

I live at home with my dad in a flat. When I come to school, I walk with dad or grandma but sometimes I come on my scooter. When I am not at school, I like to do my homework, read and watch TV. During the summer holidays I will be spending time in Battersea park and hopefully seeing some friends.

I hope you have learned something new about me and are looking forward to having me in your class.

This week’s English will work towards writing a non-chronological report. Please complete 1 activity per day. Please access the day’s activity through the links below for each day. I have created templates for each day so that children do not need to write as much each day if they find it difficult. Week 6, Day 1 - EnglishNon-chronological reports: Reading Comprehension – Retrieve information https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-retrieve-information-from-a-non-chronological-text

For these questions, you are the non-chronological report on Pandas.

PandasPandas are the national animal of China. They are

related to bears and have black eye patches.

What do pandas look like? There are two different types of panda. The giant panda is the most well-known but the red panda also lives in the mountains in China. The red panda has a long tail and is the same size as a cat. The giant panda is much bigger and has black and white fur. Both the red and giant pandas are have long, sharp claws that they use to climb trees and strip bamboo.

What do pandas eat? Pandas are very fussy eaters. Most pandas only eat bamboo, a type of grass. A giant panda will eat half their own weight in bamboo every day.

Did you know?Pandas are endangered and if they are not looked after could become extinct.

Finish each of these sentences: We will go to the park when ______________________________________We will go to the park if _________________________________________We will go to the park that _______________________________________We will go to the park because ____________________________________

Here is a video with some links if you need some more practise on what a subordinating conjunction is: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwwp8mn/articles/zqk37p3
