Our Lady of Guadalupe, mother of God and of the people of Metuchen you always shine on our path

as a sign of salvation and hope. We rely on you, Health of the Sick,

you who, at the cross, united with Jesus’ pain, keeping steadfast your faith

You, Salvation of God’s people, you know what we need

and we are sure that you will provide for us, as at Cana of Galilee,

after the adversity of these days, may joy and celebration return. Help us, Mother of Divine Love,

to conform to the will of the Father and to do what we are told by Jesus,

who has taken our suffering upon Himself and has burdened Himself with our sorrows

to lead us through the cross, to the joy of resurrection. Amen.

Under your protection, Holy Mother of God,

Our Lady of Guadalupe, we seek refuge, hear our prayer and intercede for us to the Father

so that we may be free from every danger, Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us.

PRAYERSNEEDED

Please pray for all those affected with the coronavirus as well as those especially vulnerable, that they remain safe.

Pray for our health professionals who are on the front line of this health crisis, and for our government leaders, that the Lord may guide them and grant them wisdom, foresight and prudence.

Pray for our parish, our bishop and diocese, and our country. May the Lord relieve the world soon of this horrid virus. We received word that the three priests of our diocese who contracted COVID-19 are all home now and recuperating. Please keep them in your prayers.

FROMTHEPASTOR’SDESK

My thanks to Deacon Keith and John Friel for filming the Sunday Mass this past weekend and placing it on our web page. We

will continue to offer our Sunday Mass on our web site through the course of this lockdown. All Mass intentions that have been taken for 2020 are being satisfied in private Masses celebrated by both Father Desmond and myself. I wish to thank all those parishioners who have been so thoughtful and generous in forwarding their weekly contribution to the church. While we are not taking in the usual weekly amount, we are most grateful for everyone’s efforts. Also, many thanks to the 150 parish households who have made pledges to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. Thus far, the diocese has received 55% of our assigned goal of $65,000. At a time when our financial situations are tenuous, contributions to both the parish and the bishop’s appeal are appreciated beyond words. We received the sad news that Carol Dobry passed away on April 17th. She worked in the parish office at the beginning of the parish as secretary/bookkeeper. Her husband, Paul, also died recently. May God rest their souls. Let us continue to pray for one another, for all those on the front line of this pandemic, for those who have died from this virus and for those who mourn their loss. I remember you all at the altar.

God bless you, Father Carina

COVID‐19ECONOMICIMPACTPAYMENTSCAMSTARGETINGTAXPAYERS

WhatisHappening? The Treasury Department and IRS announced that the automatic distribution of the upcoming economic impact payments has begun. These payments will be distributed automatically, with no action required for most people. You can learn if you are eligible and how any potential payment will be disbursed to you via the IRS website: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/economic-impact-payments-what-you-need-to-know The IRS also urged taxpayers to be on the lookout for scams relating to economic impact payments. Criminals could exploit these confusing and stressful times to take advantage of taxpayers by committing fraud and identity theft. Waystospotapotentialscam:

Usage of phrases like "stimulus check" or "stimulus payment." The official term is economicimpactpayment.

Being asked to sign over your economic impact payment in exchange for receiving additional funds.

Requests by phone, email, text or social media for verification of personal and/or banking information. Fraudsters may claim the information is needed to receive or speed up your economic impact payment.

o The IRS will not call you asking you to verify financial information to expedite a payment.

Being asked by someone for personal information in order to get an economic impact payment faster by working on your behalf.

Being mailed a bogus check and asked to call or verify information online in order to cash it.

WhatShouldIDo? Report the scam to the FTC (www.ftc.gov/complaint).

Here are some proactive measures you can take to help avoid becoming a victim of scams related to your potential economic impact payment.

Be wary of any email, text, phone call, or social media request for money or other personal identifiable information in exchange for receiving your payment more quickly.

Never send money to someone else in the hope of receiving additional money. The scam artist may call this a deposit, an advance, or a processing fee. This is always the sign of a scam.

Never give your personal or financial information over the phone.

NEWJERSEYSAFEHAVENLAWUnder the New Jersey Safe Haven Infant Protection Act a person may give up an unwanted infant anonymously. The purpose of Safe Haven is to protect unwanted babies from being hurt or killed from unsafe abandonment. A distressed parent who is unable to care for an infant can give up custody of a baby less than 30 days old safely, legally and anonymously. All that is required is that the baby be brought to any hospital emergency room, police station, fire station, ambulance, first aid and rescue squads in New Jersey that are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As long as the child shows no signs of intentional abuse, no name or other information is required. The parent can call the Safe Haven Hotline, 1- 877-839-2339, and get the address and directions for any hospital emergency room, police station, fire station, ambulance, first aid and rescue squad in the state.

3rdSundayofEaster“DidnotourheartsburnwithinuswhileHetalkedtousontheroad,while He opened to us thescriptures?”

‐Luke24:32

How often do we take the time to discern what Jesus wants from us? Are our prayers always petitions, asking Jesus to do things for us? If so, that’s a one-sided relationship. Living our faith means developing a personal relationship with Jesus. Just like any friendship, there is give and take, each side listening to each other and helping each other out. Take time in silence to listen to what Jesus is asking of you.
