The AGM received, adopted and ratified the Directors’ Report and Auditor’s Report for the Financial Year 2016-2017 and appointed auditors for the Finan-cial Year 2017-2018.

On the same day the 3rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of SMC Enterprise Limited was held at the Company Head Office in Dhaka. The AGM received, adopted and ratified the Directors’ Report and Auditor’s Report for the Financial Year 2016-2017 and appointed auditors for the Financial Year 2017-2018.

We mourn the sad demise of Mr. Dhiraj Kumar Nath, honorable Company MemberMr. Dhiraj Kumar Nath, respected Company Member of SMC and former Adviser of the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh, passed away on January 5, 2018 at a hospital in Dhaka. He was 73 years old. Mr. Nath, a former Secretary, served the Government of Bangladesh in various administrative capacities. He also served as Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (Rural Development and Cooperatives Division) and retired in 2003 after a 34-year stint as a public servant. He left behind his wife, two sons and a lot of admirers including us to mourn his death. All members of the SMC family gratefully recall his valuable guidance and contribution.

SMC sponsors “Joya Alokito Nari” againSMC EL became the title sponsor of the RTV program “Joya Alokito Nari” for the third consecutive year to commemorate the International Women’s Day. This year, the program was held on March 9, 2018 at a local hotel in Dhaka. Mr. Mohammad Nasim, M.P., Minister, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Ms. Meher Afroze Chumki, Minister of State, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Government of Bangladesh and Mr. Abdul Haque, Managing Director, SMC EL, were in attendance along with high officials from SMC, diplomats, celebrities and other dignitaries.

Multiple spots and pop-ups appeared on television during the match times. This campaign is expected to help create more awareness about these brands.

Bogura Area Office organized workshop for JGCC studentsThe Bogura Area Office of SMC EL in collaboration with the Joypurhat Girls’ Cadet College (JGCC) organized a sensitization workshop among female cadets at the JGCC auditorium on March 27, 2018. The aim of the workshop was to create awareness on personal health and hygiene for adolescent girls. It was an excellent platform to promote use of sanitary napkins in general and SMC’s Joya in particular as an essential product for menstrual management. Mr. Md. Abu Hanif, Acting Principal, JGCC, spoke on the occasion as the Chief Guest. Major Himel Miah and Captain Ashrafia Akter, Adjutant and Medical Officer of JGCC respectively, were the Special Guests. Among others, Mr. Quazi Md. Jafrullah, Regional Manager, North Division; Mr. Abul Hayat Md. Kamal, Sales Manager, Bogura; Mr. Shamsul Alam, Senior Area Executive and Mr. Md. Rafiqul Islam, Sales Officer, Joypurhat, represented SMC EL at the program. A lecture on hygiene practices was delivered by the guest speaker and obstetrician Dr. Nur-un-naher Nazme.

Ms. Caroll Vasquez, Director, Office of Population, Health, Nutrition and Education (OPHNE), USAID/Bangladesh and Joseph Monehin, Deputy Director, OPHNE, USAID/Bangladesh visited SMC’s manufacturing operations on March 1, 2018. They visited the ORS Factory and Central Warehouse in Bhaluka, Mymensingh. Mr. Md. Feroze Ul Alam, Chief of Factory Management and Mr. Md. Mujibul Haque Khan, General Manager, Bhaluka Factory accompanied them during their visit to the factory. The guests visited a Blue Star provider later that day. Mr. Toslim Uddin Khan, General Manager, Program, also accompanied the visiting USAID high officials during their visits.

Mr. Siddiqur Rahman Choudhury, Chairman of SMC & SMC EL Board of Directors, visited Sylhet and Habiganj districts from January 9 to 10, 2018 to see the field promotional activities. During his visits, Mr. Choudhury observed a CSA meeting and attended a Private Community Health Providers (PCHP) training session in Habiganj district. The Chairman also visited the SMC EL Area Office in Sylhet where Mr. Mohammod Bahauddin Khandkar, Sales Manager, Sylhet gave a presentation on both sales and program activities in the Sylhet area.

The Chairman visited the Notun Din office at Bahubal Upazila of Habiganj district. He observed a monthly Community Sales Agent (CSA) meeting and witnessed a presentation on the activities of CSAs. He also exchanged views with the CSAs. Mr. Choudhury was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm shown by CSAs for their work and was impressed by their performance. The CSAs have helped SMC to make a very effective market penetration of its products to rural women. It is an innovative initiative undertaken by SMC which has not only benefited SMC but also contributed in improving the health and hygiene of rural women as well as their empowerment.

During his visit to a PCHP training program held in Habiganj on January 10, 2018, the Chairman exchanged views with the PCHPs. He observed that the PCHPs were very proud of their association with SMC and was also pleased with the method and quality of PCHP training provided by SMC.

SMC’s Program Division organized an experience sharing and performance review meeting with the doctors of its Long Acting Reversible Contraceptive (LARC) Program under Bogura area office on January 23, 2018.
