WATER MISSION TO IRAN AND DUBAI 3

Overview and business opportunities WHY SHOULD YOU JOIN THE WATER MISSION?

Switzerland Global Enterprise and the Swiss Business Hub Middle East are organizing a water mission to Iran and the UAE, introducing Swiss water companies to leading local players in the water sector. Visiting Tehran and Dubai will be an excellent opportunity to learn about the chances and challenges for Swiss companies in these markets.

The participants will be introduced to – key contacts in the Iranian and UAE water industry, – leading governmental entities, – specific local companies in water engineering and consultancy, – water companies who are seeking to cooperate with Swiss companies in water technologies.

The Participants will learn how to sell in the local markets and network with globally-renowned engineering integrators who deliver large–scale infrastruc-ture projects to these countries.

IRAN / TEHRANIran is potentially the biggest new water market that we will see over the next decade. The National Water and Wastewater Engineering Company (NWWEC) – which is the unit of the Ministry of Energy responsible for regional utilities – has many BOT (“build-operate-transfer”) projects ready to be awarded in the short term. Further contracts are structured as “buy-backs”, where an industrial water user commits to a long term off-take agreement for treated sewage effluent.

The market is undergoing tremendous changes by innovation and transfor-mation in business and technology. Ever-evolving needs are demanding a renewed focus on go-to-market strategies and value creation. In response, the industry is leveraging new market strategies and technologies throughout the product lifecycle. Now is the right time for Swiss companies to tap into the power of new technologies and continue to stay relevant in a competitive environment.

UAE / DUBAIWith an average water consumption of over 500 liters a day per capita, the water demand of the UAE is around three times higher compared to European Union countries. Taking Dubai, as an example, with only 1.2 percent of the demand covered by ground water, the dependency on desalination as the major source for potable water is highly significant. In order to cope with the 6.8 percent annual growth in water demand, structural changes are necessary and several projects are planned.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced plans to build new water transmission networks across the Emirate. These plans include renovating the network, replacing old connections to houses, increasing opera-tional efficiency, strengthening the water supply network and increasing water flow capacity. Based on the demand for highest international standards, Swiss technology and products are of great interest. While looking beyond, DEWA is planning CHF 16 billion worth of projects over the next years to enhance the energy and water infrastructure in preparation for the Expo 2020. The annually growing demand for water and especially the activities being undertaken related to the Expo 2020 will create a great potential and a significant number of projects for Swiss companies.

WATEX 2017WATEX (Iran International Water & Wastewater Exhibition) from the 16 – 19 October 2017A visit of the WATEX is not part of the official program, but there is the possibility to arrive earlier in Iran and visit the fair individually (www.watex.ir/English/).
