description

The human cannot live without water. At birth the cells are about 80-90% water content. With passage of time it diminishes, but still remains in the 60% range.Water gives power, is power and is the life of planets, animals and all that lives. Sharing a presentaton I did for my former asswociates at work; includes works of Emoto on the power of words, music to influence the structure, shape and colour of water. Think about this. If we are such a high proportion of water - must we not conclude that our words impace all living things, all people?

Agenda:

• Part 1 - Relationship: You and Water• Intermission: 5 minute break; general discussion

and intro to Part 2• Part 2 – Food for Thought: Words, You and Your

Environment

Page 3: Water and You

3

In the Beginning…

• An amphibian for the first 9 months of your life

• Pre-birth you are 90% water

• At birth 78-80% - babies & kids have higher water %

• Average adult male is 65% water and female 55% (because women have more body fat then men)

• Thin people have more water % then fat

Page 4: Water and You

4

BODY MAKE-UP

• Every part of body consists of cells• Cells are 65-90% water by weight• Most of human body mass is oxygen• 99% of body is made up of six elements: oxygen, carbon,

hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium and phosphorus

Your Body Will Thank You for Clothing It

Basic Anatomy

• Organs are collections of specialized tissues• Tissues are collections of groups of cells, therefore:• Cells are the basic living units making up the body• Conclusion: the health of every organ is determined by

the health of your body’s cells• Cell health is directly related to its ability to retain

nourishment and remove waste products• Water is the ingredient that allows for proper

nourishment and elimination vis-à-vis the bloodstream

Page 6: Water and You

6

Why You Need Water

• It is the most important liquid in the world [not oil!] • It sustains our lives• It makes up ¾’s of the human body in order to:

– Maintain health– Keep bloodstream liquid enough to flow through blood

vessels– Help eliminate body waste through urine & faeces– Regulate body temperature through sweating– Help with food digestion and prevent constipation– Moisturize the skin to improve texture and appearance [yes, it

does help slow down the aging process]– Carry nutrients and oxygen to cells

7

Water Needs to be Replaced Daily

Daily Elimination Daily Replacement

•1.5 litres (6.3 cups) urinating•1 litre(4+ cups) breathing, sweating & bowel movements

•20% via food intake plus•2 litres (little more than 8 cups)

CONCLUSION

The ``8 x 8`` Rule

Drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day (1.9 litres)

Page 8: Water and You

8

• Age – yep! As you age the body is less able to sense dehydration and tell the brain you’re thirsty & need water!

• Excessive urination & increased thirst can be symptoms of more serious health issues – see your doctor or naturopath!

Things that Contribute to Dehydration

Page 9: Water and You

9

Things that Influence Water Needs

Exercise: • an extra 1.5-2.5 cups of water for short bouts of

exercise• intense (1 hr or more) requires more and is

dependent on perspiration rate, length of exercise and type – for latter it is recommended drink a sports drink to:– replace sodium lost in sweat– reduce chances of developing hypoanatremia (mineral

content of blood becomes diluted resulting in low sodium levels in the blood) that can be life-threatening

Page 10: Water and You

10

Environment:• Humidity makes you sweat & lose water• Heated indoor air causes skin (your largest organ)

to lose moisture especially in winter• Higher altitudes (those days of mountain climbing)

Things That Influence Water Needs

Page 11: Water and You

11

Health Factors Requiring More Water Intake:• Bladder infections• Urinary tract infections, stones• Pregnancy (10 cups) & breastfeeding (13 cups)

Health Factors Requiring Less Water Intake:• Some types of kidney, liver and adrenal disease

(due to bodies inability to eliminate water)

Things that Influence Water Needs

Page 12: Water and You

12

Checklist for Rehydrating

• 1 glass of water with each meal and between each• Before, during and after exercise• Substitute sparkling water for alcohol at social

gatherings• If you drink water from a bottle, thoroughly clean and

replace the bottle regularly

Page 13: Water and You

13

Symptoms of Dehydration:

• Symptoms of mild dehydration include chronic pains in joints and muscles, lower back pain, headaches and constipation.

• A strong odour to your urine, along with a yellow or amber color indicates that you may not be getting enough water.

• Thirst is an obvious sign of dehydration and in fact, you need water long before you feel thirsty.

Page 14: Water and You

14

Summary of When & How Much:

• A good estimate is to take your body weight in pounds and divide that number in half. That gives you the number of ounces of water per day that you need to drink. For example, if you weigh 160 pounds, you should drink at least 80 ounces of water per day.

• If you exercise you should drink another eight ounce glass of water for every 20 minutes you are active.

• If you drink alcohol, you should drink at least an equal amount of water.

• When you are traveling on an airplane, it is good to drink eight ounces of water for every hour you are on board the plane.

• If you live in an arid climate, you should add another two servings per day. As you can see, your daily need for water can add up to quite a lot.

Page 15: Water and You

15

Water Deficiency

• Leads to dehydration• Dehydration can cause:

– Fatigue– Irritability and mood swings– Skin, hair, bone deterioration-brittleness, premature

osteoporosis and loss– Vision and eye problems– Organ failure and ultimately

DEATH

Page 16: Water and You

16

Does the quality of the waterwe drink matter?

Page 17: Water and You

17

Effects of Drinking Bad Water:

• Severe effects include reduced growth and development, cancer, organ damage, nervous system damage, and in extreme cases, death.

• Exposure to some metals, such as mercury and lead, may also cause development of autoimmunity, in which a person's immune system attacks its own cells.

• This can lead to joint diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, and diseases of the kidneys, circulatory system, and nervous system.

Page 18: Water and You

18

Effects of Drinking Bad Water on Children:

• The young are more prone to the toxic effects of heavy metals, as the rapidly developing body systems in the foetus, infants and young children are far more sensitive.

• Childhood exposure to some metals can result in learning difficulties, memory impairment, damage to the nervous system, and behavioural problems such as aggressiveness and hyperactivity (ADD…and noted increase in today’s society: Can this be a contributing factor?)

• At higher doses, heavy metals can cause irreversible brain damage. • Children may receive higher doses of metals from food than adults,

since they consume more food for their body weight than adults.

Show your children your love…teach them to eat & drink healthy!

Page 19: Water and You

19

Sources of Toxin in & from Water:

• Toxic metals can be present in industrial, municipal, and urban runoff, which can be harmful to humans and aquatic life.

• Increased urbanization (Toronto more than qualifies) and industrialization are to blame for an increased level of trace metals, especially heavy metals, in our waterways.

• There are over 50 elements that can be classified as heavy metals, 17 of which are considered to be both very toxic and relatively accessible.

• Toxicity levels depend on the type of metal, it's biological role, and the type of organisms that are exposed to it.

• The heavy metals linked most often to human poisoning are lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium.

• Other heavy metals, including copper, zinc, and chromium, are actually required by the body in small amounts, but can also be toxic in larger doses.

Page 20: Water and You

20

Sources of Toxin in & from Water:

• Heavy metals in the environment are caused by air emissions from:– coal-burning plants, smelters, and other industrial facilities– Automobile emissions (check out Toronto)– waste incinerators– process wastes from mining and industry; and – lead in household plumbing and old house paints.

• Industry is not totally to blame, as heavy metals can sometimes enter the environment through natural processes. For example:– in some parts of the U.S., naturally occurring geologic deposits of

arsenic can dissolve into groundwater, potentially resulting in unsafe levels of this heavy metal in drinking water supplies in the area. Once released to the environment, metals can remain for decades or centuries, increasing the likelihood of human exposure.

Page 21: Water and You

21

Sources of Toxin in & from Water:

• In addition to drinking water, we can be exposed to heavy metals through:– inhalation of air pollutants– exposure to contaminated soils or industrial waste, or – consumption of contaminated food.

• Because of contaminated water, food sources such as vegetables, grains, fruits, fish and shellfish can also become contaminated by accumulating metals from the very soil and water it grows from.

Page 22: Water and You

22

Sources of Toxin in & from Water: Involuntary Drugging!

• Federal study reveals Canadians' tap water contains traces of prescription drugs

• Ontario water samples from 20 drinking water treatment plants in southern Ontario found evidence of nine different drugs – including the painkiller ibuprofen, cholesterol-lowering drugs and antidepressants, such as Prozac

• Drugs are making it into the water supply because the human body doesn't always absorb all the medication it ingests; some is excreted as solid waste, & water treatment process does not remove

• The study, conducted by researchers from the National Water Research Institute for the federal government, has yet to be formally published. But it has been submitted to a British journal entitled Water Research and should be published in the new year.

Page 23: Water and You

23

Sources of Toxin in & from Water: Involuntary Drugging!

• The “watchdogs” say our tap water is still safe.• Environmentalists counter by saying any quantity of prescription drugs

in water is unacceptable.

• "They certainly aren't tested in combination," said Angela Rickman of the Sierra Club. "So we're being exposed at any given time to three or four or five or any number of pharmaceuticals and no one knows the

effect of that exposure."

Who are you going to believe?

Page 24: Water and You

24

Sources of Toxin in & from Water:• There are also questions of the impact on aquatic life, on

foetuses' and on those who are ill or infirm.• As an example of what can happen, male smallmouth bass

in a nicotine-polluted section of the U.S.'s Potomac River have started producing eggs.

• Research into the effects on humans of pharmaceutical drugs in our drinking water is only at the beginning stages – if we wait for the test results to come in…it just may be too late!

We owe it to ourselves to take precautionary measures and pay attention to what we drink!

Words: Impact on You & the Environment

Photo of Frozen Water Crystal by Dr. Masaru Emoto

Amazing facts about water (energy, healing) based on the writings of Dr. Masaru Emoto, author of The Message from Water, The Healing Power of Water & others.

End of Part 1

Page 26: Water and You

26

Dr. Masaru Emoto (Japan)• Author of The Hidden Messages in Water and several other

books relating to water and its miraculous properties• Born in Yokohama, Japan, Emoto graduated from

Yokohama Municipal University with courses in International Relations, and in 1992 he received certification as a Doctor of Alternative Medicine from the Open International University for Alternative Medicine in India

• Emoto is President Emeritus of the International Water For Life Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Oklahoma City, founded in 2005

• He has three children and is married to Kazuko Emoto.

Page 27: Water and You

27

Dr. Masaru Emoto (Japan)

• Emoto's water crystal experiments consist of exposing water in glasses to different words, pictures, or music, and then freezing and examining the aesthetics of the resulting crystals with microscopic photography.

• Emoto freely acknowledges that he is not a scientist, and that photographers are instructed to select the most pleasing photographs.

Page 28: Water and You

28

Dr. Masaru Emoto (Japan)• A scientist, Kristopher Setchfield has this to say

about Dr. Emoto’s work:• “It is this crucial lack of scientific foundation that

prevents Dr. Emoto’s work from attracting interest by widely accepted and respected scientists at long-standing research institutions. This is unfortunate for the world if there is, after all, truth to his claims--as reproduction of his results by any scientist would lend much credence to his work. A little change in Emoto’s experimental design would do great things for the credibility of his claims.”

Points to remember as we continue:

• The human is between 55-65% water• The environment: all around us contains water• Water is energy• The quality of the water does matter: polluted

water, polluted body• Water is influenced: by good and bad • Water reacts to vibrations and sounds such as

music and words: negatively or positively
