2. DESCRIPTION and SPECIFICATIONS

2.1 The 8210 Torque Multiplier is a double reduction gear mechanism providing power multiplying means for loosening and tightening threaded assemblies that demand high torque values. The 8210 is designed with an internal spline drive that connects to sleeve sockets which are specially designed for each application. An adjustable 360° protractor is attached to both faces of the unit for angle of turn readings. The display is a continuous readout LCD capable of displaying the output torque in units of in-lbs, ft-lbs, and Nm.

• Maximum input torque 1081 ft-lbs • Maximum output torque 12000 ft-lbs • Input drive ¾” female square • Output drive Internal spline drive 8/16 pitch 43 teeth • Readout Liquid Crystal Display • Rotation direction Clockwise or counter-clockwise continuous • Accuracy Zero to 2,000 ft-lbs-- ±250 ft-lbs

2,001 to12,000 ft-lbs-- ±5% • Power ratio 11.1:1 • Weight 75 lbs (34 Kg) • Size 18.13” x 13.13” x 6.63” • Power requirements 8 “AA” batteries • Torque reaction Two 1” diameter anchor pins, 10.5”

3. OPERATION 3.1 This tool is envisioned to be used by trained

professionals only.

3.2 Attach lifting strap to handle for horizontal applications to lift tool. For vertical shaft applications a SWE 81002 (Fig. 1) lifting sling is recommended. This can be used universally.

Fig. 1 81002 Sling Fig. 2 8202A

3.3 Align the reaction pins to the reaction anchor fixture holes so that the pins drop into the holes. Use safety screws if required.

NOTE: Over tightened safety screws may cause incorrect output torque readings. Safety screws should be run down to where they touch the flat surface of the pin and backed off ¼ turn.

3.4 Insert socket so that it is aligned to the drive spline. Rotate the input by hand with the knurled collar to align the socket to the nut, and fully seat socket to the spline drive and threaded element on application.

3.5 After attaching the torque multiplier and socket, check for proper engagement of anchor pins and socket.

3.6 Determine amount of torque needed by referring to the appropriate OEM manual.

3.7 Use ¾” drive torque wrench to apply torque required. Additional torque multipliers may be piggybacked to the input of the 8210 to lessen the effort necessary to obtain high output torques. Model 8202A (Air Torque Multiplier Fig. 2) or 8202-290A (manual torque multiplier Fig. 3) provide two speeds which result in two distinct torque ratios. Do not use any other input torque devices with this torque multiplier.

NOTE: The high and low outputs of the 8202 rotate opposite of each other. Always check the rotation of the output to be used before mounting.

3.8 Hold input handle firmly at all times when the 8210 has a load applied to it.

Fig. 3 8202-290A

3.7 To operate display, turn on by pressing the ON/OFF button once. To turn on the LCD back light press the ON/OFF button again. To turn display off press ON/OFF button a third time.

3.8 The default unit of measure when powered up is in-lbs. To display readings in ft-lbs press the units button. To display N-m press the units button a second time, pressing again cycles the display back to in-lbs.

4. MAINTENANCE

4.1 Care should be exercised when using the tool to protect it from external damage and corrosive environments. Inspect the handle or lifting sling according to the applicable national law on lifting equipment.

4.2 Inspect the torque multiplier and related tools at each use for cracks in the housing castings. These parts are subject to a high degree of stress when in use; no attempt should be made to repair cracks or any damage that has seriously weakened the structural integrity of the part. Contact the factory for replacement parts. A fine cut file or stone may remove minor scratches, burrs, or nicks.

4.3 Each torque multiplier is adequately lubricated at the factory for normal service between overhauls and/or calibration cycles. No additional lubrication is required during field service. Disassembly and inspection of internal parts is recommended once a year during calibration. Worn or damaged parts should be replaced with original factory parts only. Lubricate with Premium #2 Lithium Base, Ball and Roller Bearing Grease. Each unit is certified for accuracy at the factory before shipment. Recertification is advised after disassembly and inspection or parts replacement (if required).

5. CALIBRATION 5.1 Each 8210 is calibrated at the factory prior to shipping.

The calibration needs to be verified periodically based upon the amount of use.

5.2 For more information on calibration please refer to

document 8210-CP. 6. Trouble Shooting 6.1 If tool is loaded to exceed its capacity the display will

give a visual and audible alarm. The display will switch contrast and it will beep.

Reduce torque load

6.2 Battery low. In the event the batteries run down, there

is an indicator on the display that says “BATTERY LOW”.

Replace batteries.

6.3 Display will not turn on.

Replace batteries. 6.4 Tool does not rotate smoothly.

In the event the input does not rotate smoothly, or at all the tool should be returned to an authorized service center for evaluation and repair.

6.5 Display reads a value other than zero when no torque is

applied.

Return to authorized service center. 6.6 Display reads EEEE or beeps an Error tone.

Return to authorized service center.
